Never Healed

Stunned look
On open face
Squeezing tight
Make it fade
When a hug
Felt like a slap
Heaving words
That ruin
Friendships
A smile that
Hurts
See eyes turn
Red - blur

She's dead
Just a child
Cry
Never tell
Broken skin
Nothing left
To bleed

Never fitting in
Never loving
Never coping
Cutting out
That part
That used to
Love you
She'll never heal

(This is a poem written about my grandmother on what would be her 89th
birthday, seven years after her death - 8/23/03)
