Sitting on the fence. (Alone)
I sit on the yellow fence.
(Alone. Abandoned.)
I watch the two figures disappear over the hill and out of sight.
(Not one look back.)
I sit and wait for them to return.
(Alone.)
As each minute ticks by, my hope grows fainter.
(Anger builds.)
I told them, I told them so many times.
(I’m waiting.)
I made time for them, told them.
(They don’t listen.)
I told them I would be waiting for ages.
(They are deaf.)
But they didn’t listen, too caught up in their own lives.
(I am invisible.)
They are too interested in others to listen to me.
(10 minutes have passed.)
Why don’t they listen to me?
(15 minutes have passed.)
Am I not loud enough, bold enough, beautiful enough?
(I wait alone.)
They obviously don’t care about me.
(20 minutes have passed.)
They obviously wouldn’t miss me if I disappeared.
(They have each other.)
He always tells me we need to talk.
(I agree.)
I made time for him, so we could talk.
(He doesn’t care.)
I made time, I told him, and he didn’t listen.
(He didn’t make time.)
He is too busy listening to others.
(Anger simmers.)
I’m sitting on this fence alone.
(Boils over.)
I’ve been abandoned by my friends.
(40 minutes have passed.)
They laughed and joked while they walked away from me.
(I scream silently.)
They were too loud to hear me.
(I scream aloud.)
They didn’t care!
(I die inside.)
My mum is late.
(45 minutes have passed.)
I sit alone, abandoned on the fence.
(Mum drives towards me.)
My ride is here. Time to go home.
(I’m still alone.)
I talk to them later, make them understand how I felt.
(I’ll write a poem.)
They can’t understand the pain they have inflicted on me.
(They left me alone.)
Those who anger you conquer you.
(I’m angry.)
But I’ll hide my anger and they’ll never know.
