The rain beat mercilessly against Saeran's window. The clouds were
gathered so close and dark she could feel the raw power emanating the air.
With a yawn and a stretch she jumped out of her tiny bed. Ah the bewitching
hour! I wonder if Sada has awakened yet. Sending out a strong mental touch
Saeran inhaled swiftly. Evil chaos swirled around in a bleak landscape of
nothingness. Her dear little Sada was gone for eternity! The agony of that
revelation put her on her knees. Yet the expected bloody tears didn't come.
The only thing Saeran could feel was rage! Burning rage that extended her
fangs and brought on a vicious urge to kill. No one was going to be safe
this night.
A chill swept down the street, and the feeling of panic that
followed, as unexplained as it was, sent everyone on the street home as if
they could sense their own peril. With the confusion that followed no one
noticed the lone man who stopped and scented the unrelenting wind. Turning
in the opposite direction he had been briskly walking in he started
running. Dark violet eyes were framed in an unemotional mask and
accentuated by a deep chestnut mane. Leander could feel the anguished fury
that tainted the atmosphere and it actually made him ache for the soul.
Warrick, can you feel it? I am going to investigate. Let us hope it is not
yet another victim to Valerian's.
Leander wait for me! That is an order. You may be my friend but if
you find him first and kill him I will not have a choice but to harm you.
He is mine. The quiet menace that hissed at him gave Leander pause.
Cautiously he slowed his pace. It comes from just outside of the hostel we
secured for the "babies." Be careful my friend.
Always. Flying above the clouds Warrick overlooked the city with
contempt. It was a breeding ground for parasites. He didn't want to raise
his growing race in such a place, especially for all of the mischief the
"babies" or youngest members of the culture, seemed to get in. He was the
leader. The oldest and most powerful of all, his name even meant strong
leader in the old world. With a grim smile he searched the buildings for
the woman.
As he approached the hostel he felt the air thickening around him
with hatred. Oh yes, she knew he was there. All that emotion had finally
found and outlet, him.
Screaming with the injustice of it all Saeran ran up the fire escape
to the roof. Why did now of all times the Leader choose to come and
"visit?" She knew he was angry at the disorder she caused but regret was
beyond her feeling capacity at the moment. In fact maybe he would just kill
her and she could join Sada. Breathing raggedly Saeran threw herself up the
last stair and landed face first in a garden. She had forgotten people kept
them up here. Getting up as if nothing had happened Saeran coolly looked up
into the eyes of Warrick. "I see you have come to visit me Sir. Is there
something I can help you with?" Saeran was surprised that her voice was
calm because her body trembled with anger and fear. Warrick was still the
handsomest devil she had ever laid eyes upon. His black hair and sparking
obsidian eyes had always slowed her heart rate. Yet now she was standing
here ready to fight to the death. Life was funny that way.
"It is good to see you Saeran. Although we were expecting to find a
baby with a temper tantrum, not an ancient such as you causing this
ruckus." His quiet reprimand brought a tinge of pink to her pale face. She
still looked the same as the day he had turned her half a century ago. Pale
green eyes, now ringed with red and long blonde curls, yes she was still a
beauty as was her sister. Trying to make small talk he asked her about her
life and such. "So, how is Sada?"
A roar of fury escaped her lips. Elongating her nails she slashed him
cruelly across the face. Gasping in air she slowly circled him the way a
predator would its prey. The silence that fell between them was strained at
best. Saeran almost felt bad but his emotionless eyes seemed only to egg
her on. "Don't mock me! I know one of you did it! One of you old world
traditionalists. What did she do, huh? Was the fact she wanted a revolution
too much for you? Or was it that she was with a human, who I mind you told
her not to be with. Maybe it was that she revealed herself to him and he
left her, and while she was down you murdered her!" With every word her
frenzy escalated. A calming quality kept trying to crawl into her mind but
stubbornly Saeran refused to be conquered.
"Okay so I gather she was killed. Now calmly explain everything you
know and I will try and help you bring the murderer to justice." His smooth
tone carried traces of mind control. Warrick also knew the exact minute
that Saeran realized what he was doing. Her scream of outrage echoed and
the winds picked up.
"Leave me! Leave me or kill me now for I know that I have lost any
remainder of a soul I might have once possessed. I demand that you kill me
or I shall do it." Not even aware of what she was doing Saeran had stopped
moving. The killing rage that had powered her so forcefully before left
leaving an exhausted broken body in its wake. Bloody rivers ran heavily
down her cheeks and the soft drizzle cloaked the raw feeling that remained.
Warrick had never seen such a vulnerable being in his entire
existence. Stepping forward as if to hug her to him Saeran immediately
tensed ready for anything. It felt like an ice block was melting inside of
him around his heart. Warrick wanted to hold her until the pain went away
and the hunted confusion left her striking eyes. Warrick, do you need me?
Leander's voice echoed in his head. No, but I have a problem here. Sada has
been murdered, I feel it was Velorian, and Saeran is letting off some steam
to put it mildly. Come quickly, I do not understand these females as you
do. Light laughter echoes behind Leander's retreat.
"Kill me."
"Excuse me?"
"I said kill me. I want to be gone."
"No you don't."
"Hey, who do you think you are? I know what I want and I don't want
to be here anymore, dammit!"
"You miss Sada." He spoke understandingly.
"You think? Why you're simply brilliant my dear." A spark entered her
eyes, a spark that he didn't trust. He didn't have to wait long as Saeran
tried to launch herself off of the roof. Warrick didn't even break a sweat
as he grabbed her midair and jumped lightly. Saeran didn't dare look down,
but only grabbed him closer so as not to accidentally drop. His amused
laughter was muffled in her ear.
"How would you have managed to kill yourself when you grab me closer
like this?"
"Oh stop being smug you arrogant jerk." Her weepy voice accused. She
might not be able to kill herself by heights but she would join her sister
some way. Meanwhile being in Warrick's arms was pleasant in an unfamiliar
way. Not that it would get serious or anything, after all he was a Leader
and she definitely didn't fit into vampire society. Sada I miss you kid.
Less than a minute later she was sound asleep.
