Gentle wings, devour me
Show me no raw respite
My will is old and broken
My only vice is flight

Lead me on through daybreak,
Over lake and field and sea,
Lead on through troubled waters
Till the world comes back to me.

So I can feel my heartbeat
In a drift of icy snow
So the wind tears through my fingers,
So the landscape blurs below,

Lead me on in miles,
And lead me on in chance,
Steal away my self
With one unwavering glance

Steal away my world
Of a million shards of wood,
So the waves that crash below
Do not ripple as they should

Lead me on, my gentle wings
Where no bird has ever flown
To a flock of speckled seagulls
On a rocky isle alone

Lead me on to calmer waters
Where my sea eludes the sun,
Lead me on to a red hued sunset
Where my world has not begun
