Red Tiled Roof

By Mick Reis

For Rose

Sitting with you

On a red tiled roof

Sun on your face

Wind in your hair

The sky such a deep blue

As it can only be in fall

Clear, cloudless azure

The wind alive in the trees

You tighten your jacket around you

You're cold, but your smile's so warm

The depth in your eyes show truth

You don't need me but- you want me

I don't need you either

But God, I want you

You kiss my cheek

Your eyes smile

God, I want you

You point down to the street

Thing happening below

They don't interest me

But your hand in mine does

You kick off your flipflops

My leather jackets strewn behind us

It's comfortable

We smile, we laugh

There's such contentedness up

On this red tiled roof

Sitting with you

On a red tiled roof

Sun on your face

Wind in your hair

Your hand in mine

I understood happiness.
