Chapter 1: Gone, but how?
A little strayed from her home, which was a very small one. With her father, mother, two sisters, an elder one and a littler one, and a snowy white cat. They didn't live in a huge village, like most everyone else. They lived near the river, very far from other villages. The little girl wandered to the tree far off as she usually did everyday. Every evening she walked down to a tall, old tree and rest, then she would come back home. "Mai-chan, Mai-chan, how old is you? One plus three but minus two...." She sang her usual song she had proudly made up herself, and she finally came to her favorite tree. But for some reason, it seemed a lot further from home than she had remembered it to be.
But then, she began to get curious of what was beyond the tree. "Mai-chan sit and rest? Or Mai-chan go see--uh.." A strange object in the distance. It looked like a person lying down on the ground, dangerously near the edge of the river. Curiosity overwhelmed her and she ran over to the person without thinking if it really "was" a person at all. She had forgotten at the moment to be careful. After all, on the "new earth", there were countless demons, ghosts, vampires, and mostly feared, ogres. But this person looked more of a farmiliar kind of creature, as she came closer and closer to it. She had finally made it to the person, but could not tell whether he was a human or a demon.
He was very tall, as she could tell by his long legs. He had long, beautiful, shiny silver hair which fell all over his white shirt and even over his loosely worn white pants. His hair, due to the curled up position he was in, covered his face also.
"Daijoubu?" She asked, nudging at his shoulder lightly but received no answer. Determined and impatient, tried once more. This time shaking him violently, "Daijoubu? Daijoubu!? Wake up, mister!!!" She shook him so much, he began rolling over into the river. She immediatly grabbed him and pulled with all her might. It took a while, but she finally tumbled over, his shoulders still held by her little hands. Panting, she climbed onto him to study his face. His face was beautifully curved and long, with eyelashes longer than even her mother and her sisters eyelashes put together. Perfectly straight and black with long, thin, silver eyebrows. His nose was pointed, and his breathing made her move up and down on her stomach.
Now vexed that he refused to wake up, she used her thumb and index finger to clip his nose shut and used her other hand to cover his mouth. After waiting a few seconds, he began to struggle and then he swung up in a sitting position, throwing her off. "Heh heh, you should have listened to Mai-chan!" She giggled as he looked around lazily as if he didn't know where he was. He then fixed his eyes on the girl, "....Mai...chan?" "Uh-huh! Mai-chan is my name." "And your family name?" He asked, suddenly snapped to reality as he gazed into her emerald orbs she called eyes. She paused for a while as if she didn't know her own family name, "Oh! Kaorumiya!!! Kaorumiya Mai-chan! Who are you?"
He did not answer. Instead, he continued to stared at her. "Kaorumiya, you say." His strange long eyes got just a little wider and his pupils broadened, like a cat when it wants to see something better. She noticed his cat-like atop his head jet forward, his tail swaying slowly from side to side, and his mouth forming into a slight grin to reveal sharp teeth. How could she not noticed? He was officially a demon, and Mai began to back off, with a twist in her stomach to tell her she should go home.
The demon could not help but to grin even more. He outstretched his hand to her and bent down to meet her level, "Where do you think you can go?" His long, sharp nails touched her short, purple hair, but he was immediatly rejected.
She began to run home without even looking back to see if he wasn't following her. When she swung the door open she flung herself back and pinched her nose. Out came an offensive odor. But her family wasn't there. In fact, nothing was in the cabin at all. But the walls, floor, and ceiling were heavily coated with a red substance she wasn't farmiliar with. "See? There's no one there for you any longer. Guess you have no other choice but to come with me, do you?" The demon, who had suddenly appeared behind her whispered into her ear.
Mai began to sniff and sob, walking away from him and then suddenly stopping. "You wanna be alone the rest of your miserable life? Do I have to come and force you along or something?" He asked, annoyed. Still no answer. He was about to walk up to her and just pick her up anyway but he then remebered once seeing a mother human pretend to walk away from her child and he followed her because he did not want to be left alone. He smiled. "Fine. Suit yourself. I'll just leave you here all by your lonesome self. See ya around." He began walking away then stopped when he felt a tug on his pants.
He could barely keep back a grin as he slowly turned his head to look at who it could possibly be. Mai had a firm grip on his pants and was looking up at him with teary eyes. They stood there for a while until he broke the silence. "So be it then." His eyes became slits as his grin grew a little bigger.
