Courage to an empty heart, artificial saint

I am no benevolent god, nor tempting devil

Just an angel fallen from heaven’s taint

Cursed to wander forever by fate

Yet still, without wings or halo I stand

Ready to sacrifice immortality to time

For without our bonds, life itself will break

Scattered to the wind like grains of sand

A single word to protect our soul

The only defense against hate and apathy

Save feeling from the ravages of humanity

Stave off the death of kindness one day more

I am Compassion: hero of the forsaken spirits

Guardian of those who would chose to be alive

Protector of that emotion, so fragile in pain: Love

I promise, as long as you live and need, I will never die
