In an austere room a lonely girl dreams
Sleep knitting her lids with delicate seams
Pallid face abright with a radiant glow.
Dusky shadows of the room shrink and grow
Merging into one shape, spinning a tale
To bear her across seas no one dared sail,
Off to vivid kingdoms far beyond real
On a palanquin of bright fairytale.
Under the velvet sky embossed with stars,
The dreamer soars a mere ripple in grass
While a burnished moon takes her by the hands
To voids where nestled lost, picturesque lands
Where forgotten songs unceasingly chime
Unfading in the empty gaps of time.
There phoenixes blazed as they took flight
The dreamer cried in rapturous delight
To the iridescent crystals hung high
On winter-bathed peaks where blizzards sigh.
Bubbling azure lakes surrounded by firs
Each shall be her chalice to slake her thirst.
Lands where treasures are abundantly strewn
There echoed nature's mellifluous tune.
And then the palanquin bore her away
Back to the shaded room where she once lay
Melded shadows broke then went with the night
Leaving her in the room's mellow twilight.
As her sleep-shrouded eyes pried open their lids,
Sparkling down her cheeks a dainty tear slid.
