Dreamless

Nights when nothing mattered
Fall away and leave a hole
Everybody says
That you are grown
Pull close the ones
Who held you when you cried
The ones leaving now
Too many photographs
Line your walls
Helping you to remember
What it felt like
Clinging to a dream
Of cars and parties and your
First cigarette
Wanted to be an adult so bad
Couldn't wait
To take the world
And rip it apart, reshaping it
To your liking

Now you're facing the day
When allowance
Won't pay your bills
And the ones you love
Are packing their things
Preparing to start their lives
Accepting the world as it is
Adults realize that you
Can't change the world
And dreams are only for those
Who have the money
And the time
To hold onto their childhood
