Mistreated

She sits alone in the sand,

Writing furiously, pen in her hand.

Thinking about the world she has come to despise,

Cast downward are her hollow coal eyes.

Quiet and shy, unlike the rest,

When it comes to school, she did her best.

Ridiculed and laughed at for reading her books,

Seemingly oblivious of others dirty looks.

Entwined in her world of mystery,

None of her peers know her history.

How she used to be called fat and dumb by the kids,

She was always alone, shivering in the wind.

Carrying her pain throughout the years,

Every night crying her lonely tears.

If anyone took the time to get to know her,

They would realize she wasn't such a bore.

But everyone's too wrapped up in their lives,

To take the place at this lonely girls side.

Then when she stopped coming to school,

They assumed she was expelled for breaking a rule.

Little did they know, she committed suicide,

It was because of them that she died.

At her funeral everyone was there,

It would be the first and last time they showed they cared.

Like her and others in her place,

A smile will never again cross her face.

She never had the chance to go out on a date,

All because her peers mistreated her and now it's too late.
