Slip, child

I’ve seen you there

Your eyes, half-closed

Silent protest

Against the bars of your cradle.

I reach out, my words:

Slip out of bed

And into the night

I’ll show you a good time, alright.

We’ll sail in the clouds

We’ll fly through the waves

We’ll get the things we’ve wanted

All the things we crave.

We’ll sing to the birds

We’ll shine to the stars

We’ll act to the players

We’ll run with the cars.

We’ll show them what it is

To live,

to love,

 to lose

To know what it’s like

To hurt and to bruise.

We’ll teach them a lesson,

Just you and me

We’ll open their eyes

We’ll make them see.

We’ll stopper the guns

We’ll soothe the cries

We’ll catch the tears

And kiss them all

 fond goodbyes.

We’ll paint the town red

Dance under the sky

Just slip out of bed

And don’t

ever

Let go.
