Look and Touch

Satin, silk, velvet, lace;
Ringlets of gold with silver beads of joy.
She stands on feet enveloped with red flowers of leather,
Waiting for someone to sweep her off them.
So he watches.

You may look, but do not touch.

Their eyes meet;
Midnight to day.
She smiles so the sun is envious.
His chiseled mask hides the face of a hungry monster.
So he approaches.

You may look, but do not touch.

He takes her petite, elegant hand,
And together they sweep across the floor of glass.
She’s oblivious to the fires trying to leap at her.
He dips her low, teasing the fire with his prize.
She smiles again, but the sun is sorry now.

He looked, but he had to touch.

Cotton, polyester, nylon, yarn.
Wisps of tarnished silver with pink curlers of sorrow.
She stands on feet enveloped with blue weeds of terrycloth.
Waiting for him to knock her off them.
So he does.

He looked, but he touched,
So he destroyed.
