Author’s Note: Just what the title says. An ode to friends. I’ve been very lucky in this subject I think, and this is the least I can do to repay all their kindness and understanding.

A great many things

I once did see,

but now those dreams

are gone from me.

of gloom and despair,

I cannot cope

cure this disease.

I feel so alone,

have so much fear.

so helpless, alone.

Wandering desperately,

without a home.

who, again are you?

You’re my friend?

And you are too?

and lead me away,

from this desolate trail,

don’t lead me astray!

On you I know

I can depend.

No matter how close

how bleak the end.

Know also you

can trust in me.

When hope fails,

and there is no dream.

Retreat to myself,

or retreat to you.

There’s nothing I

would rather do.

You have my trust

like none other alive.

There are no others,

I would have at my side.

Hold my hands

guide me straight.

Help me through

this vulnerable state.

I thank you for

your kindness and care,

for helping me through

all my despair.

Now its your turn,

and you are lost.

I’ll help you through

no matter the cost!

Don’t even bother

to yell for me

I already know,

I’ve already seen.

Here I am

what can I do?

Whatever it is

I’ll help you through.

Name it please,

I’ll not hesitate.

this dismal state.

I don’t lie

if you need to weep

then with you I’ll cry.

Don’t ask me to sit

and watch as you die.

If I cannot save you,

than so will I.

Don’t leave me,

cause I won’t leave you.

Unless of course,

you’d want me to.

Take my hand

hold it strong,

together we three

do belong.

And should death ever

take one away,

and leave the others,

here astray

remember for always
