Running Out

You said not to tell, but I had to say
That the talk we had made me cry today;
How your Mom and Dad didn't love anymore,
And how you cried when he walked out the door,
How you never saw this coming at all,
And how angry you were before you called.

Promises made keep falling apart,
Leaving you there with a broken heart.
I want to be strong, but we're both too weak,
To take this ourselves, so try to believe;
When everyone keeps running out on you,
I'll be here and help to see you through.

I told Mom and Dad through my tears of dismay,
"Why did these things happen to her this way?"
Of course, we don't know; God's plan is unseen
By mortals who live for what they can be.
But don't be mad, they needed to know
Or I would have fallen from the heavy load.

And as I finish my letter to you
I can't help but wonder; what can I do?
She needs the love that God can give,
But can it still come through me, from Him?
When wisdom and wit are running out on me
I guess a listener is all you'll need.
