Disclaimer: The poem’s mine. No one else’s. That’s all.

Author’s Note: Since today is Diwali (an Indian festival), I thought I’d write a poem dedicated to my favorite fesitival. Happy Diwali/Deepavali to all my fellow Indians out there!

Lamps lighting brightly

with a warm, golden, dancing light

a flickering flame -

Gold inlay reflecting like a mirror upon a jewel

showing the red, gold, orange

colors that are held within.

Firecrackers lighting up the sky

with bursting specks of every color imaginable

in the sky

Lakshmi’s warmth and presence

lighting up every home

and the sky

with joy and dazzling color and light

against the black, swirly velvet blue curtain

dotted with twinking merrily stars

that’s the sky

Sparkling, happy lights dances in everyone’s eyes

filling them with an inner warmth and excitement

and indescribable happiness

that’s Diwali -

The Festival of Lights.
