Chapter 13
It was the same as it had been before, everyone gone, every wall
broken, every sound silenced. The same...but slightly different, I knew
what was going to happen, I knew what to expect
But I didn't know how to stop it.
Something told me that maybe, just maybe, if I hurried jut a bit
more, flew just a bit faster, that maybe, someway, somehow, I could save
them.
I could save KeiKai, I could save Hereth, I could save them all.
But still I took my time, even though I knew deep inside that I had
to go faster.
I took my time, I went slowly, I crept. Why? Very simple.
I was scared. I knew that I shouldn't be, knew that I should be
brave, that I should fight. But I was still scared. So I took my time, jus
as I had last time.
And then I was there, the same dented gold ring, same pool of blood,
same fallen bodies. Then the whispers came. They whispered harshly in my
ear, those same words. But they said something else as well.
"You'll never escape"
Then the anger flared up, the determination, the hunger for freedom.
To see the blue sky again, the sky reflected in my eyes. To see Flie,
Maple, and Violet. To see Jeremy.
I felt something in my hands. Cold, metallic, strong, light, and
glowing...glowing with such a power that the whispers died immediately. I
heard hissing, and my emotions continued to flare.
Flare like a fire fueled by such a power that I knew there must be
something great to create it. Some sort of...of love. But love couldn't
defeat demons like this, could it?
"Wasenshi, the time is now. You must awaken"
Yes, the time /was/ now. It /was/ time to awaken, wake up and defeat
them.
"Wasenshi." the voice continued, "It is time to awaken." It gained a
familiar tone as I felt myself being pulled forward into consciousness.
My eyes met with the light gray eyes of a smiling KeiKai, "You must
be a very heavy sleeper." He said.
I smiled back briefly and nodded, turning my head as I did so towards
a light knocking sound.
"We should go quickly," KeiKai urged.
"Oh, of course." I replied, leaping to my feet as I realized what the
knocking was. The memories of the past night bubbled to the surface. We
/did/ have to go quickly.
Hurling the familiar golden dust at Hereth's glass prison wall, I
took no time before doing the same to the wall blocking our exit. The
shatter was loud, and it echoed all around.
Hereth motioned for the two of us to follow him out as he flew out of
the now broken glass. KeiKai gripped onto my wrist as a deep golden light
flared ahead where Hereth had been hovering seconds before.
Moments after, a deep forest green light sprung up and flared around
the two of us. I knew then that we had made it. We were out of the dungeon,
out of the dark. To myself, I wondered where we would go. Back to the
forest? Or to the place in my dream memories? I looked around as we arrived
to our destination and immediately knew the answer.
Was this heaven? I had always pictured something different...This
place was more like a business office than any thing I'd ever pictured. It
was an immensely large room, with desks lining the walls. Various angels
sat at the desks, many of them were busy with lines of other angels behind
them. Though an open doorway, in another large room, I could see a few more
desks. The majority of those lined up in that room were what looked like
humans, and other creatures, though there were a few angels in uniform
mixed in. The ones in the lines were mostly in uniforms like Hereth's,
though in the other room the uniforms were trimmed in gold, of a few of
them wore different clothing like KeiKai's but with different coloring.
I then noticed that I had been clinging to KeiKai's arm, and quickly
let go out of light embarrassment. There was of course one small problem
with us having escaped...all three of us were still the size of fairies. By
the looks of the others around us, surely this wasn't our true size. KeiKai
looked around the room, putting two fingers into his mouth and whistling to
the get the attention of one of the desk angels. It worked, and one of them
stood up, hurrying over to where the three of us where hovering.
She was relatively tall, with short straight brown hair and golden
eyes hidden behind small glass lenses. Her wings were feathered as well,
and she had a normal gold ring floating above her head. The girl wore a
simple white dress, and smiled as she neared the three, "Oh wonderful!
Finally, how ever did you three escape?" She then spotted me and her eyes
went wide, "Of course! I should've guessed you'd found her. Come on, Come
on, we'll get you three back to normal in no time." She turned and opened a
nearby door, holding it open as the three of us flew through and then
followed suit herself.
There was a table in the center of the white empty room, made with a
deep brown wood. KeiKai landed lightly on the surface, as did Hereth, and I
landed between the two. "We added this room in not too long ago for when
the captives came back. We never thought anybody would get here without
rescue! But no matter, now just wait there, spread out a bit. Wonderful"
She added the last word as the three of us had done as she had told.
I had clasped my hands together in a lightly nervous gesture, but
caught a reassuring smile from KeiKai and relaxed a bit. Turning my gaze on
the girl, I watched as she began writing various symbols in the air, they
glew a light bluish color before fading and dissipating, "That should do
it, I'd stay to watch but you wouldn't believe how backed up we've gotten
with so many angels of death taken with the captives!" She hurried out the
room then.
I exchanged glances with Hereth, offering a small smile...and
receiving a cert nod in return. Sighing very slightly, I looked towards
KeiKai, who once again gave a hearty reassuring smile, I returned it,
looking down at my hands as a strange tingling sensation began to
reverberate throughout my body. Looking to the sides each of the two by my
sides once more my eyes widened as the two began to enlarge. They grew in
size, each stepping down form the table. KeiKai turned first, blinking and
smiling reassuringly, "Do not worry Wasenshi, I am sure it is only because
you have been smaller for longer that it has not worked yet." Hereth nodded
in agreement
I nodded as well, a bit shakily as I wasn't use to what was
happening, I let out a small gasp as I, too, came to be in a larger state.
I stepped down from the table, suddenly becoming aware of just how awkward
it looked for a person of this size to be wearing fairy clothing. Catching
my gaze, KeiKai smiled once more, "You will get your uniform very shortly."
Hereth nodded, "I'll have to get going now Wasenshi, KeiKai. You
heard what Sachi said."
KeiKai nodded, "It was good to see you again Hereth," He replied,
waving.
I waved as well, "...Bye..." I replied, a bit confused. Hereth left
the room quickly, and I turned to KeiKai.
Seeing my confusion KeiKai blinked, "Hereth is one of the Angels of
Death, many of them are still imprisoned...he will have much work."
Angel of Death...and suddenly it all made sense. His serious mood,
stern looks, and anti-social acts. Of course someone who has to deal with
people dieing would be taught not to become much attached, it would hurt
them too much. Having to watch someone and having to bring them to their
death...oh it must be horrible.
"Wasenshi, we must go get your uniform now" KeiKai said, holding a
hand out. I knew he meant to teleport. I took his hand, and almost
immediately we were surrounded by the forest-green light again. This time
when the light cleared we were in a room lined with rows and rows of
different uniforms. One second held uniforms like the ones Hereth wore,
white with gold trim. Another area held a variety of clothing, things like
what KeiKai wore. A third section held more cloaks, trimmed in silver and
gold. KeiKai led me towards that section.
I stood there and watched as KeiKai went over to the rack, glancing
over to me for a moment before pulling a hanger out and handing them to me.
I held it, and then took the boots that he gave me as well. Standing there,
I watched as KeiKai made his way towards the regular clothing, pulling out
a dark-tan t-shirt and deep green pants. He stacked them on top of the
boots, "There you are may go change in that room over there"
He said, pointing.
I nodded, heading over to the room and closing the door behind me.
Not long after I looked down at the clothing. The uniform consisted of the
cloth t-shirt and pants, the deep green material hanging loosely over dark
leather boots. The boots reached up most of my shin, held closed by small
gold clips. The cloak I now wore went over my neatly folded wings, it was
white, with gold trim on all the edges. If I had chosen to close it, the
cloak would've been held together by the same gold clips that were on the
boots. Around my waste was a medium-dark leather belt, the shirt was tucked
in to reveal it.
I walked out then, smiling at KeiKai as he spoke, "You look wonderful
Wasenshi, here is the last part of your uniform" He held out a pair of
leather gloves the same color as my belt. Putting them on, I realized that
they laced up the side with gold thread, and reached almost fully to my
elbow. Interesting accessory, but they fit so well with the uniform. I
smiled then, lifting my chin and holding my arms out, "Whaddya think
KeiKai? Do I make a good Angel or what?"
KeiKai smiled, nodding, "You certainly do Wasenshi, but of course
there will be more training. You will need to learn to teleport yourself,
and to fight."
I scoffed slightly, "You kidding me? If I get into any fight I'll
just sprinkle them with my Calia." I replied, using the name I'd given to
the dust.
KeiKai scratched the side of his cheek then, looking down before
returning to meet my gaze, "You Calia is not to be used outside of battle
Wasenshi..."
I nodded, "I know that KeiKai, it's alright."
KeiKai shook his head slightly, "No Wasenshi, the battle you are to
use your Calia in are only direct battles of the war, when both armies come
together to fight. This is why you must learn to use your other powers. And
this" He finished, picking a sword up off of the table. "You are a Warrior
Angel, Wasenshi. Each of your category gets one of these weapons. You are
to attach it there, at your belt."
I stared in awe at the magnificent sword; it was medium length, in a
gold sheath swirled with silver designs, the hilt and handle of the sword
had the same design and coloring. I took the sword from KeiKai, nodding as
he told me what to do with it, and undid the belt. Looping the belt through
silver attachment of the hilt, I replaced the belt around my waste, looking
up to KeiKai afterwards.
"Wonderful" KeiKai said, "Come, it is time to begin your training."
He turned then, walking out of the room. Apparently we weren't teleporting
this time. Turning to follow, I paused, looking through the door of the
room I had changed in. There on the bench laid my old cloths...the cloths
from the life I had come to know so well. Would I really have to leave them
all behind? My friends...and my home?
I swallowed, tearing my gaze from the heap of cloths, and tearing my
mind from the painful subject. I looked up at the sound of KeiKai's
beckoning voice, he was standing in the hallway now.
"Wasenshi, are you coming?" He questioned.
Looking once more at the cloths, I quickly swiped a tear off my face
as I refused to let KeiKai see me cry. I was a Warrior...a Warrior /Angel/.
I had to be strong. Turning to look at KeiKai I smiled, "Yes KeiKai, I'm
coming." I said in reply as I turned to walk out the room. As I left I
closed the door to the room full of uniforms, the room that held a part of
my old self there. I closed the door to my old life completely.
