Summer Child

Summer dies
The last summer
Of childhood
Gone

Crying for video games
And 3am trips
To Wal-Mart

Never saw it coming
Childhood lasts forever
When you have
Too much free time

Hating books
And English class
September lets you think
This year
Might last forever

Your girlfriend
Shows you
Just how little time
You have left

Procrastinate
Pushing aside
Applications and essays
Taking up old toys
Brushing off the dust

Not ready
To let go
Of this summer of your
Childhood
And fall into the winter
Of life.
