The clown
I smile for the masses
And juggle for the fans
Always caring, but never sharing
Always laughing when I should cry
(but only on the outside in)
my smile is painted on
masking my humanity
Can't let them see inside
Can't let them know there's more
Than my silly clown and jester show
So don't look any deeper
Than I let on that's there
I feel it coming on
I can't take it anymore
I know This mask is killing me
But I don't have the heart to tear it off
Where can I turn to, where is it I can go
when all my friends are the ones
that cannot see what I am,
And what I cannot be
I'll always play the clown
I know this now and ever
I cannot let them know
Or they all might turn away
I know not one will stay
So I'll smile for the masses
And juggle for the fans
I'll paint on this smile
And laugh when I should cry
When I die and leave this place
Maybe they'll see behind my face
But I know in my heart not free
I won't even leave a memory
