A poem about how the world changes and how it's a hell of a lot more
complicated now than it was before. It's not nice a simple and kind
anymore. And I wish for that other life that was good.
My Other Life
Sometimes I lie awake at night
Remembering my other life.
When lilies last in gardens bloomed
And spring came with the robins' song,
And molehills were from mountains made
So long ago-but not so long.
Sometimes I lie awake at night
Remembering my other life.
That world, I see, in faerie tales
Of half truths and dogmatic lies
Where lampposts into peach trees grow
And frozen hearts, made no one cry.
Sometimes I lie awake at night
Remembering my other life
A life of knights and chivalry
Where heroes worshiped right and wrong
With maidens saved from dragons' snare
So long ago-but not so long
And when I lie awake at night
I wish for just my other life.
