Where I'm from
I am from a piano
From sheet music and carpet cleaner
I am from the green grass
(Green and soft,
Scented as rain.)
I am from my willow tree,
And Princess Diana Roses
The tree house in the willow
Only a plank, a castle to me, my home
I am from one present on Christmas Eve
And fairly skinned
From Leverne and Johns of many past
From musicians
And mathematicians
From "Life's not fair" and "Tough titty cried the kitty,
When the milk ran dry."
I am from a dusty pew
A choir of angles
And an ancient hymnal
I am from Istanbul, and Ireland and such
From potato soup and Christmas fruitcake
From my Grandma's accordion band,
She made money that way
From the hall closet
Scrapbooks over flowing of pictures
Family, names of people long past
Books started and kept since
My great grandma died this summer.
I am from my family,
Funny, true, and
Free.
