Happiness Is

(Yeah, so it’s a little weird. So sue me. Or rather don’t.)

Happiness is

Audition pieces in the key of g-minor melodic

With lots of not-quite-chromatic runs, triplets, and double grace notes

(Well, it is for band geeks like me, anyway)

Happiness is

Getting the first use of a tube of toothpaste

So that the shape on your brush is

Near perfect

Happiness is

Peanut butter triple chocolate chunk ice cream

With a perfect counterclockwise swirl

(Until you devour it)

Happiness is

A nice, fuzzy pair of purple socks

Decorated with bright green frogs

Happiness is

A hot lunch on a cold day

Eaten outside, of course,

While not wearing a jacket

Happiness is

Eating your peanut butter triple chocolate chunk ice cream

When it is thirty-five degrees outside

Then complaining to no one, “It’s not cold enough!”

Happiness is

Writing a poem

Using a quill

And bright pink ink

Happiness is

Singing along with the radio

Even when you’ve never heard the song before in your life

Happiness is

Watching movies with friends

Even though you can already

Recite the lines with the actors

Happiness is

Hearing your favorite song

Played in the Top 40 countdown

Happiness is

Curling up with a good book

In front of a fire

With a mug of hot chocolate

Happiness is

Living your life

One day at a time
