Not All Angels Have Wings
Prologue
The old lady pats the young man’s hand after he set her bags of groceries on her counter. “You’re sweet to come and do this for an old lady, Tom,” she told him, smiling. “Most young people these days would be much to busy to bother, but you come twice a week! You’re a sweetheart.” Tom helped her shop and do chores around the house on his visits.
“Nonsense, Mrs. Black. You can’t be older than 25, and I love to come and help you. My week wouldn’t be complete otherwise,” Tom answered her, smiling. He always had a sense of sadness or sorrow about him, but it was lessened when he was with her. Mrs. Smith giggled.
“Tom, you awful flatterer you! I declare, not all angels have wings, unless you’re hiding them under your jacket!” she told him. Tom stiffened, acting as if she had just called him the a bastard and the son of a whore and that she never wanted to see him again. “Did I say something wrong?” she asked, puzzled. What could she have said?
“No, it’s, ah—I think I left my stove on. I have to go. Same time next week, ‘k?” and he rushed out without further ado. Mrs. Smith stared after him a moment, then shrugged and started putting away her food.
Tom began the long walk home. As if sensing his mood, it began to rain, the drops camouflaging the tears on his face. Should you have been the boy in the two-story window, looking out on the street, blessed—or cursed—with the second sight, you would have seen two broken, bloody stubs of white-feathered wings coming from his back. He would have to walk for eternity for Redemption for his misdeeds. The boy in the window put his hand on the glass and whispered, “Lost..”
A/N: *sighs* Tom is an arse. A HUGE arse. He gives me this, demands I write MORE for him, and then won’t tell me anything, like why he was kicked out.. On the bright side, I know his angel name. It’s Malachi. And the name of the boy in the window is Kami. And there’s gonna be slash. *nods* At least this can stand on it’s own for the long time it’s gonna take for me to drag more info out of Tom.
