Not All Angels Have Wings
Chapter One
Kami remained staring out the window at the man with bloody wing stubs for several minutes. He was used to the unusual—just yesterday, he had held a conversation with a man who had been hung a couple hundred years ago—but this was a bit excessive, even for him. The tangle of emotions—sadness, anger, hurt, pain, betrayal—all coming from this one person! It was overwhelming. Kami made a sudden decision and turned away from the window. He grabbed a raincoat and an umbrella and headed out the door.
Tom was lost in thoughts, having managed to stop crying, but still trapped in memories. He never heard the patter of footsteps coming up behind him. He jumped violently when someone touched his shoulder.
Kami gently touched the strange boy on his shoulder, being careful to avoid the wing. He asked, “Do you need help with something?” then watched in astonishment as the boy stiffened and looked at him with a blank gaze, then yelled, “No! I don’t need help from anyone!” and shoved him away, then ran. Kami hesitated a moment, then followed.
Tom turned to face the stranger who had dared touched him, and heard him ask, “Do you need help with something?” His mind, which had already been tormenting him with memories of his past, decided to take this opportunity to replay his worst memory.

Zita crept up and laid a hand on Malachi’s arm, smiling up at him seductively. “Can I help you with anything, High One? And I do mean anything.” Malachi looked down at him in disbelief, about to refuse, then caught a glimpse of a face over Zita’s shoulder. It was Aidenn, the fairest of angels, the sweetest, kindest, and most loving of them all, the baby of them all. It was he who the mortal’s paradise was named after, though they warped the name into ‘Eden’. None of the angels would ever do anything to cause him pain—or so Malachi had believed. Aidenn was looking over at them, tears running down his face, heartbreak clear in his eyes. Malachi met his eyes for one crystal moment before Aidenn turned with a sob. Malachi looked after him, stunned. It wasn’t him who Aidenn had been looking at with such sorrow—it had been Zita. The Master alone knew why, but Aidenn had been looking at Zita. Malachi felt a growing anger as he looked back at Zita. Anyone would have been happy to have been the recipient of Aidenn’s affections and love, but Zita—the worst amongst them all, if such could be said of angels—had been the one to gain it, and he proceeded to stop all over Aidenn’s heart!

Tom managed to wrench himself out of the memory before the rest of it played. The way he had beaten Zita—as close to death as an angel in their pure state could get—and then the trial. Even though The Master understood why he had done it—it wasn’t as if there weren’t any other angels there who didn’t want to have done the same thing—it was still against the law. Malachi had to be punished. He was stripped of his wings—he had blacked out during this, and he was thankful—and sent to Earth. He had to earn redemption, just as all other mortals. He would have to walk the long path. However, because The Master was sympathetic to his cause, he still had many of his angelic powers and other angels could come and visit. Most didn’t, as they knew it would upset him, but Aidenn did. Poor kid, he still was in love with Zita, and Zita wouldn’t give him the time of day.
Tom shook his head and shoved back the human who had caused him to relive these memories. “No! I don’t need help from anyone!” he yelled, then began to run. He wasn’t sure where he was running to, but he had to get away. He needed to sit and think about everything. He needed.. something. He didn’t pay any attention to the footsteps coming up behind him once more.

A/N: Ok, so it didn’t take me as long as I thought it would—but then, this chapter isn’t as long as I thought it would be, either. And for those of you getting confused, remember—Tom is Malachi. The Master is God, lord, whatever. And, when Zita called Malachi/Tom ‘High One’, it was probably referring to the fact that Tom was a Seraphim—the highest choir of angels, if I remember my Christian mythos and Dogma correctly.
I would like to say at this point: I AM AN AGNOSTIC. I have no problems with other’s religions, but this isn’t going to follow Christianity exactly, so don’t start thinking that it will.
All the characters in this story are male, so far. That would be Tom/Malachi, Kami, Zita, and Aidenn. Aidenn’s name came from “The Raven”. Enjoy the show.
Next chapter: Where is Tom going, and what happens when he finds Kami followed him?
To reviewers:
Alexander MacLaren: Thank you. I am not really sure yet of how good I write, so thank you for your compliments on my dialogue! And I agree totally about that sentence, I noticed that after I uploaded the chapter, and it is now fixed.
Tao Ren: *bounces along* Yes, slash! *nods solemnly* Slash is good. And I continued soon. However.. I don’t know how soon we will be getting to the slash in this story. *winces* It all kinda depends on Tom, and he’s a stubborn—well, I already gave my opinion of Tom. Glad you like it!
Kail: Yup, I know. But I give you the addy as soon as it’s uploaded, so you get first crack. Can’t complain about that! Glad you like the conflict and the dialogue. *points at Kail* This is the person to bug for info on my stories, people. She reads them first and meets the characters first.
