The Night Horse

The Night Horse rides while mortal's sleep
Past mountains high and valleys deep
His coat is blacker than the sky
A star was stolen for each eye
His mane is moonlight, spun to thread
Streaming from his noble head
Only owls watch him pass
And hear dark hoofbeats on the grass
Only bats attempt to race
The shadow with his lightning pace
And only elflings hope to ride
The stallion with the sable hide
Now close your eyes, perhaps you'll see
The Night Horse running through your dreams
