Chapter Three x Whispers x

His eyes were a deep black and his smile perfect. Arelah grabbed the paper from his hand and shakily got to her feet. She came only to his shoulder.

"Thanks." She said sharply, narrowing her eyes at the boy. He was a little taken aback by her tone, but didn't show it. "No problem. I'm Ezris." He spoke slowly, his eyes not moving from her face.

She knew who he was, everyone did. Ezris Blackwell was the most popular boy in the school, and he had an ego to match his talents.

"Something interesting?" She snapped at him. Her emerald green eyes were cold as the looked him up and down.

He frowned slightly under her icy stare and his eyebrows furrowed, "Sorry. But your name would be nice?"

"Would it?" She replied giving him a big smile. Suddenly it dropped off her face and rolling her eyes she turned around to walk away. Head down, she made her way toward her next class once again, but after just two steps she heard someone come up behind her. Her head whipped around to see the black eyed boy smiling at her as his steps matched her pace. Her frown deepened and she tried to ignore him.

She saw people's eyes following the two of them through the hall. Every girl stared at the two there faces green with envy. She heard the whispers following them down the hall.

She stopped suddenly and spun on him her face full of frustration. "What!?"

Ezris' smile stayed but his face dropped slightly, "Just walking you to class." She let out a sharp laugh, "Who put you up to this?" His smile disappeared, "Look, I'm sorry about what happened back there. People can be jerks."

Arelah raised an eyebrow and tried not to laugh, "And since when did you care?"

The boy bit his was he supposed to say to that? 'To tell the truth' Ezris thought, 'I have no fricken clue!'

Arelah watched him carefully. His face was full of confusion as he thought over her question. She soon realized he wasn't going to answer and so she started to walk again.

She knew he was walking beside her, but she didn't bother to yell at him. He obviously took this to mean she wasn't mad at him because as soon as she reached her class and she turned to walk in his hand fell on her shoulder.

"See you later." She didn't smile, she didn't even look at him but she replied in a soft voice. "Arelah."

As she walked into class she saw all eyes on her. Chin raised she walked to her seat in the back of the room and sat down. Some watched her sit down; other's loudly whispered back and forth.

She smiled bitterly. 'Glad I give them something to talk about.'

Just then the teacher raised his hand and the room fell silent and Arelah quickly forgot about the episode in the hall.
