The enemy’s gathered at the gate

As I await the scheme of fate,

And my darling sleeps on,

Nestled in my arms.

Banging, banging on the door,

Footsteps, footsteps across the floor,

Angry whispers chill my blood,

And she rises in a fright.

The silver point in hand shines bright,

I hold my need to cry in tight,

And her neck is like butter as it slides across,

As the stairs creek with a demon’s weight.

I put the curtains ablaze; they fall apart seam by seam,

And I join my baby in her crimson dream.

Everything I once held dear now, but smoking ruins,

The treacherous shadows creep back into the night.

Our life burns out,

But our love lives on.
