IF I DIDN’T HAVE FUR

*shrugs* meh...I had a furry day. I’d also like to apologize to all my favourite authors here at Fictionpress. I’ve been so awful at keeping up with my reading. I’m so sorry, everyone. I promise to try and do better.

If I didn't have my fur I think

I'd soon be that much colder

I find my pelt is silvering

As my years are growing older

(But this is of no consequence

I've no vanity to hide

For really, what's the difference?

The fur's on the inside. )

I'd miss my heavy-padded paws

I'd miss my golden eyes

I'd miss my hooded sickle claws

I'd miss my painted hide.

If I didn't have my fur I think

I'd get soaked in the rain

And my poor skin would blush deep red

When the sun came round again

(But this is supposition now

And I have misbehaved

For who would really hold me down

And have my insides shaved?)

I sometimes feel my human skin

I sometimes feel my spine

I sometimes wish to take my fur

And wear it all the time.

If I didn't have my fur I think

I'd fit my race template

But I prefer nights on the rooves

And days curled by the grate.

I know my skin is human-bald

I know my eyes have whites

I know I run the human race

And own my human rights

(But this is of no consequence

and cannot override

the single most abiding truth -

my fur's on the inside. )
