Just Friends
A friend is someone who you can count on,
Someone you can lean upon.
But what if it is more than a friendly match?
A young, tender heart may have reeled in a catch.
What if you sob and he says it’s okay,
And then offers you a shoulder to cry on all day?
You turn around when you are alone,
And he is there to soothe you in a soft tone.
I know a friend describes these things,
But what if he can make you feel as though you have wings?
Is it possible that you can have feelings for a friend;
A feeling of bliss that seems it can never end?
No, it cannot be, I am much too proud,
I cannot speak my feelings aloud!
I know that my heart can still beat,
For I had forgotten long ago, when I left it to secrete.
I hardened my heart long ago,
I left it to beat so very slow.
My wish is not to have to feel,
But what if he makes your life real?
The someone I know is always there for me,
Wherever I am, I know he will be.
And the time we spend together is just plain fun,
We walk away, still laughing about a silly pun.
The laughter shared echoes on for miles,
Each time we pass each other, exchanged are stupid smiles.
Oh how true, great friends we are,
For our lives have lit up, like a star.
But it was strange when we shared a hug,
We both parted and slunk away, like a bug.
Maybe it’s for the best that he is just a friend…
I know that no matter what, he will be there, to the end.
