Author’s Note - I just want to thank Zelle for inspiring me to do this with nothing more than a review – it would seem that you are now my muse!! Hehe! I’m also really grateful to Jamie Cullum for FINALLY bringing out the new album and inspiring me even more. There are a few more people and things that inspired these poems but I can’t think of them all right now… I’m sure Will is in there somewhere… Hannah as well…

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading this little collection of madness as much as I enjoyed writing them all!

The Bar

Invisible only to those who don’t know

Nestled between a restaurant and church

Outside, it looks normal, another generic bar

Inside, the whole world flips on its side

Dimmed lights, constant clatter of glass

The hushed buzz of conversation

From the brat pack; the pretentious

Designer cigarettes and hard liquor

Desperate to be seen in such a place

A few purists sit nearer the piano

Filling the room with thick, heady smoke

Sipping at Jack Daniels; no ice

Relishing the smooth, fiery ride

Waiting for the music to begin

Twelve bar blues, classic jazz

Calling people in from the street

Demanding they fall in love on sight

The people, the music, the bar

The Jazz Club, open nightly

Sit down, have a drink, come on in…
