Nathan was picked up from school twenty minutes before the last bell rang by a sleek black Mercedes. He hopped into the car and he was driven to an abandoned warehouse. A large garage door opened and the car drove in and drove down a spiral road into what looked like a parking garage. Nathan got out of the car and walked over to an elevator that took him even further down into the ground.

The two silver doors slid open to reveal a large room where men in black tuxedos women in skintight black leather suits were hustling about. A P.A could be heard saying, “Dr. Leon, Agent Ryan is here. Dr. Leon, Agent Ryan has arrived”

A tall bald man wearing a white lab coat came running through the crowd toward Nathan.

“Agent Ryan, I’m glad you are here. Follow me to my office,” The man said and Nathan followed him. Nathan felt out of place walking between all the people in black while he was wearing an orange hoodie and blue jeans. The man opened a door and sat down behind a silver desk in a room that looked much like the other rooms in this place, bare. Nothing on the walls and only a nameplate on the desk with the name Doctor Ronald Leon engraved into it.

“You said you had a case for me?” Nathan asked.

“Yes, yet it is a strange case.”

“Strange is good.”

“Great, now there have been several incidents involving this alleged doctor,” Dr. Leon clicked a button on his desk and a projector popped up and a picture showed on the bare wall while the lights dimmed. A picture of a man with thinning brown hair, a misshaped nose, and evil looking eyes looked at him from the wall, “He has been popping up in towns across the United States in his white RV.”

“That’s not exactly strange, except for his nose.”

“Here comes the weird part. He runs a program to get people to relax by forgetting all of their problems. However, he takes it a bit too far and makes them somehow forget everything, except fear and how to live.”

“How do you know this if everybody forgets everything?”

“There was one survivor, who we have here now,” Dr. Leon said. He then clicked another button on his desk and the projector disappeared, the lights came back on, and a tiny microphone appeared on Dr. Leon’s desk. He spoke into it, “Bring Bryan Kline to my office.”

A few seconds after that, a short woman in a white lab coat with bright red hair and the same colored lips entered the room. She was escorting a boy of about Nathan’s age and height into the room.

“Thank you Ms. Jensen. Please sit down Bryan”

Bryan sat down in a chair next to Nathan. Nathan could notice a tear in Bryan’s eye, as if he was horrified by the experience and now he was going to have to relive it.

Ms. Jensen left the room and Dr. Leon introduced the two teens to each other. They shook hands and Dr. Leon leaned over onto his desk and said to Bryan, “Bryan, we know you do not like to talk about experience with the Doctor. However, in order for us to apprehend him, you must tell Nathan what happened in that RV.”

Bryan took a deep breath and started retelling his experience with the Doctor as calmly as he could.

“Well, first he sat me down in a huge chair and then put a metal, like, baseball hat on my head and sat down in a chair near mine. Soon, my eyesight was gone. All I could see was white. White then black. Then there was every color but at the same time no color.”

“Wow,” Nathan mouthed to himself

“Then I started losing everything, but very slowly. I started losing feeling, all sense of smell, all touch with reality. In short, I was gong insane, but then the Doctor told me I was trapped in my Mind Maze and that soon I would become one of those vegetable people, only worse. I would be lost in my Mind Maze forever.”

“Why?” Nathan asked.

“I asked him that same question and all he said was that it wasn’t for any world domination or anything like that. It was for his own enjoyment. His own sick enjoyment.”

“How did you escape?”

“Well, I started to forget everything, even my own name. Then I started to forget how to talk and I started blurting out words. Somehow, I said my name, the one thing that was the most important thing to remember. It all started coming back to me, my name, sight, everything. Then I escaped and I tried telling people what had happened, but no one believed me. But I knew, and I didn’t want anyone else getting hurt. That is why I came here,” He finished. At that he started crying and he turned away.”

“Thank you Bryan,” Dr. Leon said.

“What do you want me to do? Do you want me to go there and get rid of this guy?” Nathan asked

“Precisely. We have tracked down this “doctor” in Tennessee. You will go there and pretend to need your mind cleared. Then as soon as he lets you in, handcuff him. We will have other agents set up outside to help you if anything goes wrong. You will also get the machine for us so we can destroy it.”

“Okay, sounds good. When do I start?”

“Now,” Dr. Leon said. With that Nathan was taken out of the room by the short woman in with the red hair and was sent to prepare for his mission.
