The next morning I awoke with the sound of alarm blaring at me, soon followed by the killer headache I would be battling the rest of the day.
"Ace?" My mother tapped gently on my door. "Ace? Are you up?" She peaked her head in my room only to observe my laying in a fedeal position in my bed, not wanting or willing to move. "Are you sick?" she asked tenderly while I continued to lay immobile. I felt sick...was that good enough?
"No..." I groaned out a response and proceeded to move.
"Ok, well breakfast is on the table." Leave it to my mom to be old fashioned in the world of Pop Tarts and Ego Waffles. I engulfed my food, threw on the first thing I saw which was nothing more then a pair of jeans and a beaten and worn tee-shirt that was comfy as all hell. I shoveled my books into my backpack before rushing off to school or rather, the buss stop. I went to an in city school. Too far to walk and to risky to drive, thus why the bus was my friend. Besides, it's not like I rode it alone. Izzy was always ready and willing to accompany me.
I took a seat on the lonely bench while I waited for the city bus to pick me up and Izzy to accompany me. However, unknowingly I met someone I never thought I would have.
"Gooday mate!" I lurched to the side in surprise at the man who had just seemed to appear out of nowhere. "Lovely Mornin'!" The accent was Australian. Who the hell was Australian in Texas? He wore a fedora hat and an overcoat that looked as if it had come from one of those old black and white detective movies. This bothered me the most for the simple fact that, who wears that heavy of a coat when its summer? And in Texas no less! "Names Travis!" He was rather enthusiastic for 6:45 a.m. "Travis Robson." I looked from his hand to his face only toe warningly take his hand in mine, shaking it slowly.
"Ace...Ace Kimmiens." He jerked me forward, shaking my hand spastically.
"What a lovely name. Strapping for a growing man such as yourself. He released my hand and I smiled awkwardly sense the occasion called for such a facial expression.
"...Thanks..." A momentary silence was all there was.
"So! Where you headed?" He stared at me with what I could now distinguish as green eyes that eerily looked much like my own.
"...To school..." For some reason I felt compelled to ask him the same. "What about you?"
"Ah, me? Not quite sure where I'm headed. But I'll know when I get there." This...among other things made NO sense to me, how can you know you are in the right place if you don't know where you're going to begin with? My train of thought was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Ace?" I turned to see Izzy who looked rather perplexed. "Who you talkin' to?" When I turned back to Travis to do a proper interdiction...he was gone.
"I..."I stopped for a moment to attempt a thought. Who had I been talking to? "I...don't know..."
Maybe that was the real turning point in my life...but then again...this is only the beginning of the story.
