"Fifty bucks," said one of Chris's friends, holding up a wad of crumpled
cash, "that's what you'll get if you spend half an hour over there." The
teen, who wore a Boston Red Socks hat over his messy dark hair, pointing
across the street.
"You're kidding," Chris said. "No way am I going into a gay bar."
"Oh come on," said the other boy. "It could be fun!"
"For you maybe!"
"I'll go in with you."
"NO!" said Chris, and he swiped the money from his friend's hands.
"I'll go by myself."
Chris gave the teen a look of hate, and walked across the street, careful
not to catch the eye of someone going into the bar. He went nervously up
to the dude who was letting people in. He stuck his chest out (he heard
that it makes you look older.)
"Hi I'm 21." Said Chris trying to keep his chest inflated.
"Yea? And I'm not gay."
Chris sighed. "Okay, y'know what? Please let me in. It's a dare." He
paused, and then added, "kinda."
The man at the door grinned. "I like your spunk, ya know that? Just for
that, kid, I'll let you in."
"Really?!" Chris almost shouted
"Really." The man motioned with his hand signaling Chris to enter the
building. "Go on in. Your not the only teen here."
Chris entered the building that was full of people and strobe lights.
"Shit! What am I supposed to do I here?" He asked himself. He
pulled up a chair that was so conveniently right next to him, and he took a
seat.
" happy people falling down."
he closed his eyes and thought.
The heavy techno beat and dancing squares that reflected from a nearby
disco ball tore through Chris's concentration. He called to the bartender-
a young man that wore no shirt-and asked for a sprite.
After he received the drink, he sipped from it, knowing that his friend
from across the street was probably long gone. As Chris took another sip
from his drink, out of the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of a girl
his age taking a seat next to him at the bar.
"Oh god! I hope this is a girl and not a cross dresser!" Chris took
his chance, because he didn't want his male pride to be ruined it he found
out he was checking out a guy. He turned to face the girl.
"Hi," he said.
"Hey" said the girl back.
"Excuse me for a second," he turned around to face the other side of
the room.
"Yea!!!" Chris yelled while turning back around to face the girl
slyly. "Eureka! She's a girl!"
" you ok, um.?" The girl smiled and asked, "Name?"
"Chris," he said quickly.
"I'm Samantha," the girl said, but added, "You can call me Sam."
"Ok , what are you doing in a gay bar?" Chris asked.
"I was wondering the same thing about you."
"It was a dare," he said. "My friends suck."
"I'm just here watching my brother, this is his first time being in a
gay bar. Hes the one in the middle of the stage with his hands over his
crotch." Chris followed Sam's gaze, and sure enough, there Chris saw was a
man, no older then twenty two. Chris could clearly see that her brother
was shaking under all of the sweat. And like Sam said, his hands were over
his pride and joy.
"It doesn't seem that he's too comfortable here."
"He's not really. He is trying to pay back some debt that he has.
Lets just say that he gardening with strange woman."
"Oh.I see."
