Falling
I was falling fast,
Tumbling ever downward,
My wings were broken,
I could not rise,
The chill air whipping past my face,
Whistling through the rips in my mangled wings,
There was nobody there,
To reach out and help me,
No knight in shining armor,
To rescue the damsel,
From the monster that was,
The hard, unyielding ground,
Growing closer with every second,
Ready to slam into me,
With the force of a thousand speeding trains,
There was no hope for me then,
There never had been,
I was going to die,
And no one knew,
Or even cared,
That a life would vanish soon,
Like a wisp of smoke,
Into a hurricane,
But something stopped my downward plunge,
And hope flared within me again,
The fading smoke became a dancing flame,
The hurricane became a summer breeze,
And I never hit the ground,
Because you caught me.
