Ruth

If I could have another human friend as wonderful as you,
I would praise the Lord.
For you are my best friend, completely understanding.
You’re always there, the best friend to talk to.
Angels some have heard on high,
But I have heard the sweet song
Of true friendship, of a kindred spirit.
We understand each other, you and I,
And I’m glad we have each other.
I’ll always be there for you, and I know you for me.
Thank you for being my friend,
For being so understanding, for knowing where I come from,
For having the bravery to take a stand for what we believe in.
I suppose I sometimes get the credit of being “brave,”
But you, my best friend, are always right beside me.
You take a stand for the most important things…
It is there that I always back off.
I truly consider myself blessed for knowing you.

Author’s Note: I wrote this in honour of my best friend, Ruth. We met at camp last July. I had been nervous because I didn’t know anyone. We had thought my school friend Ona was going, but I found out after we registered that she was going the second week instead of the first. As soon as I saw her sunny smile, everything clicked. God wanted me at this first week so I could meet my kindred spirit! That week ended up being the best week of my life. It is still embroidered with gold in my mind. Anyway; review!
