Touch Me

Touch
What is touch?
Your hand in mine,
Her arms around him,
A parent's comforting hand rubs a child's back.
What is touch?

What is touch?
Feet dancing in the cool, green grass,
Petting the smooth fur of a dog's head,
Hands running gently ober a statue's face.
What is touch?

What is touch?
Two people dancing close together,
A girl tickling her little brother,
A boy giving his friend a playful shove.
What is touch?

What is touch?
Warm lips on a lover's cheek,
Warm hands massaging his back,
Hot breathe upon her neck makes her more aware.
What is touch?

Touch
You ask me why I fear it.
Shaking off my friend's genial hand,
Smiling thinly as I move away,
Awkwardness burns my face and makes my insides twist.
You ask me why I fear it.

You ask me why I fear it.
Daddy's little girl dancing with her father,
Standing a little too far away,
Loving him, loving to dance, but feeling something's wrong.
You ask me why I fear it.

You ask me why I fear it.
You hug me and find me stiff,
I break contact as quick as I can,
You can not understand it.
You ask me why I fear it.

Touch
The truth is I love it.
Running my fingers down the banister,
Carressing the smooth,cool,piano keys,
Slowly, gently, absorbing it, knowing it.
The truth is I love it.

The truth is I love it.
Touching means so much,
Touching makes it mine for a moment,
Touching makes it a part of me.
The truth is I love it.

Touch
Touch is too special to give to just anyone,
Sometimes, even to those I love,
Because I give away a part of myself,
needing the same in return.

Perhaps one day I can share it,
If you understand,
How much it means to me,
And how much I want it.
