Written for English class, from the point of view of a young woman just
after the Revolutionary war. I'm very pleased with the way this came out.
Would you believe I wrote it in less than twenty minutes? ^_^

An Ode to Womankind

Ladies! Shall we stand and sigh
And watch our men with awestruck eye
When all the power they resound
Shall not be offered all around?
Ladies! Shall we sing and dance
When we may not have another chance
To call our punches, one by one,
Until our song of victory's sung?
Ladies! Please! Celebrate not,
Lest they think we have forgot
Our purpose and ambition here:
What they claim to hold so dear.
Ladies, yes! Their war is won!
But our war has just begun!
Britain is no longer a threat,
But we are not victorious yet.
Ladies! Do you not believe
That we, too, ought to receive
Representation, and equal rights?
For that, I think, is worth a fight.
So, ladies! Come! Let us go!
Leave no blood upon the snow;
But sharp of wit and sharp of tongue,
Come forth when all the bells are rung!
Ladies! Together, we will stand!
Men shall not dominate this land.
We are part of this world, too.
We shall not fade into the blue.
