"Yu-MII-san!" The tall blue eyes girl pushed her. Falling forward she watched as her journal flew through the air and onto the head of a boy, sitting not too far away. Ayn was grinning down at her now, her golden tresses falling in her eyes. "Gomen-nasai!" Though she apologized it was obvious that she wasn't sorry. She stood laughing with her friends and pointing. Yumi turned away and saw the angry boy that was approaching her. He held her journal in one hand, his fist clenching.
When he reached her he pulled her up by the hair causing her to cry out in pain. "What the hell did you think you were doing bitch?!"
Tears flooded her eyes as she looked up at him. The boy who hated her with a passion. The boy she loved with all her heart and soul. "G-G-gomen nasai," she whispered. She had met him on her first day of freshman year in high school. Rico had been one of the popular people as soon as he had stepped on the school grounds. Just as Yumi had been a geek since she'd stepped on school grounds. Yumi was short and very thin. Her hair was always done in two braids. She wore thick black-rimmed glasses and her uniform, though small was still a bit too large for her. She had been walking into the school reading a book when she had walked right into him. She had looked up, eyes wide, at the angry boy dripping with coke and she had been lost. It wasn't just his looks that had captured her, it was something else. Something she couldn't quite explain. Couldn't figure out, but she loved him. Him.
Rico's jet black hair fell into his face. She stared at him and the fury in his eyes pained her. He looked down at her journal. Suddenly he was grinning. But she could feel herself tensing, as the smile never reached his eyes.
"This-" he held her journal away as she reached for it, "this is mine now." He then, turned away leaving a stunned Yumi, still sitting on the ground. Ayn, smirking at her, followed him.
"RUKI-ONEE-SAN!" Yuki ran into the house dropping her things to the ground. Ruki peered out from the kitchen.
"Ehh? Mi-chan? I thought you had." she was interrupted by the girl flinging herself into her arms sobbing. Automatically, concern filled her gaze. "Mi- chan? Mi? What is it honey? What's wrong?" She led the sobbing girl to the couch and hugged her crooning softly until she had quieted down. Pulling away from the fragile girl she was holding she lifted her chin and stared at her tear stained cheeks and red puffy eyes which were slightly hidden beneath her glasses. She lifted the horrid thing from her face then looked at her. "Honey I can't help, if you don't tell me what's wrong." The girl's lips were quivering now and she looked so different from the happy girl she was used to.
Flashback
"Shi-chan?" Her eyes twitched. "There's something. behind you." Shikari's face had lit up in that sneaky grin she'd been so used to in college. "Ano. it has been a while since we saw each other.hmm.I forgot to tell you. Yumi? Come out." A little girl came out of her hiding spot behind Shikari, gazing at her curiously. " Ruki-chan this is my daughter, Yumi."
"D-d-daughter?!"
The girl walked up to her then her eyes wide her mouth curved in a huge grin. "Ne? You're pretty! Can I call you Ruki-Onee-chan?"
"O-Onee-chan? KA-WA-IIIIIIIII!!" Being 27 with a child of her own she hadn't been able to resist the 3 year old girl's charms.
Shikari looked on pouting. "Yumi! That isn't polite. Call her Aunty! She is my age after all."
"No, no, no! Onee-chan is fine! Isn't that right Mi-chan??" She had bent down to the little girl grinning.
"HAIIIIIII!!" the little girl had screamed before launching herself at her new big sister with a big hug.
End Flashback
Yumi had become like a little sister to her and Shikari had stayed her best friend. Ruki had always wanted her son to meet Yumi but in the 13 years she had known her, even though Yumi came when she pleased she had somehow, oddly, always missed him. That though, also had to do with the fact that he stayed over at his father's house a lot.
"Ruki onee-chan? I lost my journal," she whispered. Ruki sighed in relief.
"Is that all? Oh honey! I'll buy you another one." Getting up she walked a few steps and turned. "Now, why don't I get you something to eat."
"ONEE-CHAN!! He took it. My private things were written in there."
Ruki narrowed her eyes. "Who took it?"
Yumi turned away suddenly. "I- It wasn't his fault. it was all Ayn's fault! She pushed me and it hit him on the head!"
"Ayn? Does this Ayn girl pick on you? If you want I can-"
"No, No! I'm fine."
Ruki, sighing, walked up to Yumi, kneeling before her. "Yumi? Is the boy who took the journal mean?"
"N-n-no. he just act that way because he hates me."
"Mi-chan? Are you really that self conscious? Listen to me," she said looking into her eyes, "no matter what happens, even if he does read your journal, you're a bright beautiful girl and you have nothing to be embarrassed of. just, walk with your head held high and whenever you feel like you're being picked on and can't take it anymore then think of the people you love. I guarantee it works."
A small smile tugged at Yumi's lips and after a long period of silence she whispered, "Thanks Onee-chan, but I'm far from beautiful."
Rumi rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I guess you're right. your head is far too big anyway."
"Onee-chan! You're not supposed to agree with me!!"
Laughter once again lingered in the air as they chased each other throughout the house.
