The Known Universe

“What’s going on?”

“It’s come…”

“What’s come, what’s going on?”

“We’ve discovered the meaning of life…”

“What, how?”

“It doesn’t matter anymore, all that matters is that we stay alive.”

“What does that mean?”

“It means just that, come now, we have to run.”

“Why, tell me or I won’t go anywhere.”

“*sigh* Ok, the meaning of life, no one knows how we came upon it, we just did. Now, pay attention, there is no meaning of life, just a purpose. That purpose is to find out that there is no meaning of life. After we find that out, our purpose is done and served then we are no longer needed.”

“What does that mean?”

“Are you religious?”

“What?”

“Answer the question, are you religious?”

“Yes, I believe in God.”

“Ok, well, I have some news for you; there is no God, just a puppet master.”

“What?”

“We are controlled by a person, apparently time moves faster down here than it does up there.”

“What do you mean up there?”

“Please, let’s continue this in a cab.”

“Ok, now, please, tell me.”

“Well, the universe used to be considered ever expanding, which is wrong. The universe is in a shoe-box like place. There’s someone looking down on us, like we were an ant colony. We are only some kind of experiment, tested to see how long it would take us to evolve and figure out what we now know about our existence.”

“When you said time moves faster here, what did you mean?”

“I meant that for every thousand years down here, it’s just a day up there.”

“Wow, that’s…”

“Hard to take in, I know. But the man watching us has yet to find out that we have figured out, he, apparently, does not watch us every minute. When he does look back though, he will know that our purpose is served, he will mark the time, and we will be assimilated.”

“Is there anything we can do?”

“I’m afraid not…it’s just a matter of time before we are caught.”

“Oh God, so there’s not even an after life?”

“No, I’m afraid not.  There’s just emptiness, nothing more.”

“Oh wow, so why did we get in a cab?”

“Because, I’ve never been in a cab before, it’s just something I’ve always wanted to d…”
