Chapter Seven:

The Date

That Thursday on the bus ride to school, Sean wasn’t on the

bus. I was kind of worried, because I’d gotten the okay from my

parents but I had to tell them what was happening before Saturday,

and also Tony wanted to take me shopping for a new outfit.

During lunch, though, Sean popped up from out of

nowhere. Literally, I was standing in line at the vending machine

to get some chips, and out of nowhere my eyes got covered by a

pair of hands.

“Guess who?” said the voice that the hands belonged to.

“Um,” I said. Then I smiled. “Hey Jackie! How’s it

going?!”

The voice laughed and the hands fell away from my eyes.

“Oh!” I said in mock surprize.”I’m sorry Sean! I thought

you were a girl.”

“Sure,” he said. “You know it’s funny, I get that a lot. It

must be my femine nature.”

At that he raised his voice up an octive and put his hands on

his hips.

“You best be joking wit me, guuuuurlfriend. Cause I’m bar

fare the manliest man around.” He then runs his fingers through

his hair.

“Sure you are,” I say between laughing, crying, and gasping

for air.

“Yeah, Sean, you sure are manly,” Jasper coos as he

sauntered towards us. Sean was turning crimson as he quickly

stuck his hands in his pockets. “You’re just soo sexy, I’d want to

take you now if if I wasn’t straight.”

I couldn’t stop laughing. Sean was about as red as he could

be, and Jasper was cracking up too.

“Well,” Jasper said, “It’s been fun kiddos, but I better be

going. I still have some homework to do. No getting frisky

without me, you hear? Bye!”

“Bye,” we both said in unison.

“So,” I said.

“So...”

“Saturday...?”

“Er, yeah,” he said. “Um, how about dinner and a movie?”

“Sure. Which movie?”

“Well, which one do you want to see?” He asked. I could

tell he was praying it wasn’t a chick flick.

“Um...” I said trying to think of something I’d like, but that

wouldn’t be to sappy for him. “How about Ego Casualties? It

sounds pretty good.”

“Okay! How about I pick you up at like fiveish, and then

we can go look up the times it plays and buy the tickets and we can

decide where we want to have dinner from there?”

“Good plan.”

We walked around the rest of lunch together just talking. It

seems like we like the same basic things. We both love oriental

food, and hate McDonalds. Both of us watch basically the same

TV shows, although hes into some of the more gorey and scarey

ones that I prefer not to watch.

Then the bell rang and it was off to another excruciating

day of math. Yet again, I was tormented for being so smart. When

I tried to show some of the people who sit near me just how easy it

was, they just teased me even more.

The bus rid on the way home was okay. I sat by Jasper, and

we joked a little back and forth at how bad at badmitten he and

Sean were. He said that they were just going easy on me. I found

that kind of amusing considering that I didn’t have a partner and I

still managed to whip both of their butts.

Once I got home, Tony immediately started intterogating

me. She had decided to stay home that day and wanted to know

every little detail of what was going on with me and Sean. Then

she decided that we were going to go shopping for a new outfit.

“But I don’ have any money!” I’d protested.

“Meh.”

So we went ot the mall, even though I still had homework

to do. Tony was very excited and had me trying on this and that. I

tried on skirts and jeans, and all the styles of top you could ever

immagine.

Finnally Tony decided on a knee lenght denim skirt, and a

dark blue knit turdle neck halter top, with specs of sliver thread.

She then dragged me to another store and bough me one of those

black leather belts with two rows of holes all the way around it.

Then it was off to a shoe store where Tony selected some black

leather boots that laced halfway up the calf, with a medium heal

height. Then off it was again to the Bon for their “great” make-up

selection. I got to sit in a chair and have some person I didn’t even

know apply makeup to my face. Try it sometime, it’s great! (Not!)

The surprizing part was that Tony paid for everything

herself. She paid for the clothes and the makeup. She also bought

me a purse for the occasion. I didn’t realize she had that much

money.

Then we went back home and filled my parents in on the

plan. They okayed it, and all was cleared for Saturday.

Friday wizzed by. I was extremely excited for Saturday,

but also nervous. My classes seemed to go on forever even though

the day itself wizzed by. It was weird. The only interesting part of

school was lunch, where Jasper kept on joking about how much

Sean loved me. It was amusing, but the way he did it was

extremely annoying. Like watching “The Nanny” too many times.

The torment comtinued on the bus when I decided to sit

next to Sean. Jasper teased us both the entire ride home about how

we were going to get married and how he better be the best man

and how our first born boy better be named Jasper after its

godfather. Sean was starting to get really mad, but I had no clue

how to make it up to him, without making the situation worse.

Finally the ride ended and I was able to get off the bus and away

from the torment.

On Saturday Tony had me up at a fun eight oclock am.

Seeing as I generally sleep till ten or even three or four if I’m

lucky, this wasn’t exactly my idea of fun. She shoved me into the

bathroom with my arms loaded down with bodywash, shampoo,

conditioner, shaving cream, and lotion, plus a bathrobe. I had it all

on my own already, but the ones she gave me were all scent

coordinated, so I decided to use hers. After the shower I went back

to my room smelling of fresh kiwis and strawberries. Laid out on

my bed was my outfit with a note on top from Tony:

“Sarith-

I’m in the kitchen making breakfast. Your parents are

already at work. Don’t put your clothes on until after

breakfast, just come down in the robe.

-Tony”

So of course, I went down stairs as instructed and ate

breakfast. Oh, what a breakfast it was too! There was ham and

eggs, toast, bacon, orange juice, and milk. I ate my heart out while

Tony just sat there watching. I invited her to eat some too, but she

refused insisting that she’d already eaten.

After breakfast I got my skirt and top on and my boots.

Tony blow dried my hair for me, and did my makeup. When it

came to hair, my expertise is that of a WWF wrestler, and makeup

would be that of a 10 year old child.

Then we watched “I Love Lucy” reruns and gave each otehr

manacures. I thought, Man I could really get used to this whole

sister thing, although Ben is a great brother.

Five o’clock came and went and I got more and more

concerned. Five thirty came, and the phone rang. I jumped up, and

answered before the second ring.

“Hello?”

“Hello, this is Jake from ATT. I’m calling to tell you about

this great offer....”

I sighed, trying to relax my nerves as I finally hung up the

phone. Where could Sean be? I thought.

“Relax,” said Tony, trying to be reasuring. “He’ll show.”

The phone rang three more times before it was six. Each

time it rang I’d run to the phone and answer it between the first and

second ring. Finnally around six fifteen, the phone rang again.

“Hello...”

“Sarith?..”

“Um, yeah. Sean?!”

“Yeah.... it’s me.”

“Where are you?!”

“I’m... I’m in the hospital...”

“What?!?”
