Author's note:This was written in August after my best friends moved away. This piece is dedicated to Chessa and Brianna.

A Wolf's Lament
The Queen of the pack stalks silently
Underneath the night's cold gaze
She leaves the pack in search
Of her missing friend

She gazes at me with mournful eyes
Tilting her head back,
My canine sister tells of our loss
Her pack echoes her mournful cry
And it becomes my lullaby

Running, she climbs the mountain
Until she's framed by the moon's light
She pours her heart out
In one last mourning cry for
Her lost packmate

Only the stars and the Moon hear
The wolves' lament
