I finally caught up with my mother about my music scholarship forms. There were about five forms to fill out- like, address form, transport form, current school form, scholarship- type form, then this other weird form. Why so many forms?
My mum looked through them and she started filling them out, and while she
was filling in my date of birth, she asked me the most stupid question.
"Kerrie, are you sure this is what you want?"
Honestly.
"Well, yeah mum," I replied, after a slight pause.
"Because you do know this school is on the other side of the country."
"Mum, you know this is what I've wanted since I was five, right when I
started violin, you know that."
"Because, Kerrie," she sighed, "You'll be all the way over there,
and me and Evaline and your father will be all by ourselves over here."
"You guys will live."
"Ok. So do you want me to put your name in as Kerrie or Kerra?"
"Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm," I groaned.
After a while (and a few arguments about the weird form) we were walking to
the derelict post office to put the forms in an envelope, stamp them and post
them. After all that was done, I was off to meet Isa and Nina for coffee at The
Coffee Tree. When I got there, Nina hadn't arrived yet, so I pulled up a chair
next to Isa and stole a biscuit from her plate without asking.
"I guess asking would be totally out of the question."
"How's Stuey?"
She threw me an alarmed look. I think I had stuck my foot in it.
"Sorry. My big mouth."
She looked down, and I think she was blushing.
"No. It's fine. He's fine. But sometimes he gets these unprovoked outbursts
of depression and starts sobbing and crying out, "Oh Erica! Why? Why did
you have to do that to me! Why, Erica? Why why why WHY??!!"
She saw my dumbstruck expression and quickly added, "Oh, but he's perfectly
fine most of the time."
"How do you cope with it? Him, still talking about Erica, and all?"
She didn't have time to answer, because Nina walked in.
"Hello, all."
"Hey, Nin." We both said. She must've sensed something because she
looked at us weirdly.
"Shall we order, then?"
After I had gotten halfway through my iced coffee, I decided to say something.
"Well, I just went to put in my forms."
They both looked up.
"Forms?" Said Nina.
I stared at nothing in particular. "My...music..schol' forms."
There was a silence.
"Oh my god."
"What?"
Isa took a quick glance at me. "I just..never really- I never really
thought it would happen, you know. It always seemed like an assignment that was
due in two months. You know- out of sight, out of mind."
"Yes I agree."
"Look- it doesn't mean I'm definately leaving. I don't even know if I'm
good enough."
"For heaven's sake, Kerrie- darling. Everyone knows you're good
enough."
We sipped our coffees silently a little more. The bell tinkled which meant
someone had opened the door, and in a few seconds, someone had cried out, "Izzie?"
Isa looked up and saw Stuart. "Stuart!" And she got up and they
hugged, causing half the teenagers in the shop to sink down lower into their
chairs, including Nina and me, only we were laughing.
"Izzie!" Nina giggled.
Isa looked back at us, as if to say, "Sorry, guys. Err...must drink with
boyfriend. I'll pay you back later."
Five minutes later, both me and Nina had finished our coffees, and I had told
her I was going to go, and I asked her, "Do you want to go browsing and
window shopping?" when the bell tinkled again, and Erica walked in,
clutching Jeremy's left arm possessively. I said a quick bye to Nina, but I
don't think she heard me. She was glancing quickly from Jeremy to Erica to
Stuart to Erica to Stuart to Jeremy, with a sort of wicked grin playing on her
lips. I knew what was coming, but I left just in time to hear a whiny female
voice cry, "Stuart!"
A/N: I promise- full account of what happened in next chapter. Although- it might not be what you think. Ugh, what am I saying? I don't even know what happens yet. I will though! Hahah!
