Chapter One: Out of the Frying Pan

"Farrin! Where are you going? Don't you walk out of this house without saying goodbye to me young man!" Gracie-Lu Pall reprimanded her 15 year old son as he stealthily made his way toward the door.

The brunette let out a startled oath and spun around, "Bloody hell, some friends and I are going Christmas shopping, okay? Must I check in with you every single time I leave this prison?"

"Don't you talk to me that way! While you're living under my roof you'll follow my rules! And who are these friends you're meeting? That dreadful Lacey girl and her Gothic friends?" Gracie's face was sternly disapproving.

"None of your bloody business! And Lacey is not dreadful, she's a fucking genius!" Farrin bared his teeth in a feral grimace; his wavy black streaked chestnut hair falling messily past his shoulders, almost reaching his elbows.

"Language! I'm tempted to ground you for that. I don't know what's gotten into you Farrin - I feel like you're not even my son any more, you're always holed up in your room listening to that gods-forsaken suicidal music or tearing up your clothes, or spending time with that devil-worshiping witch!" Gracie ran a hand through her greying chestnut hair; "Sarah-Mae never gave us trouble like you do!"

"Save it, I know - you want me to be just like Sarah; finish school, settle down, produce you guys a grandkid or two. Fuck that." Farrin reached out for the door handle.

Gracie sighed, "Farrin that isn't what I meant and you know it. Your father and I love you, even if you are different to Sarah..."

Farrin rolled his dark mascara-rimmed eyes, "Whatever you say. I'm gone."

Gracie watched helplessly as her son walked out the door, "How are you getting to the mall Farrin?"

"I'll catch the bus. See ya." Farrin waved a single hand back through the door, black nails a pointed rebellion, and made his way to the bus stop on the highway near his house.

The bus, Farrin discovered when he arrived, was running behind schedule, and didn't stop to pick him up, much to his annoyance. He ran a hand through his hair, putting on an act of complete carelessness for any cars, which just so happened to drive past.

15 minutes later a blue sedan pulled up in front of the bus stop, and a young man Farrin recognised as one of Lacey's friends climbed out, his make- up even more elaborate than Farrin's, and his smirk predatory.

Farrin smiled, a rare gesture from the angry young teen, "Hey."

The man flashed his pale teeth, "Farrin, right? I'm Ghost."

"Not that I'm disappointed to see you, but what are you doing here?" Farrin raised a single eyebrow, sashaying forward slightly towards the older man.

Ghost chuckled, "Lacey saw you and ordered me to pull over - we're... running away as it were. Interested in coming?"

"Me?" Farrin's voice trembled slightly as Ghost rested a single hand on his cloth-covered hip.

"Yeah you. We're not sure where we're going yet, but we have the car, money, and we're both ready to blow this place. Lacey likes you, and hey, you're pretty cute, so... interested?"

Farrin's eyes brightened at the thought of never returning to his nagging mother, never being the misfit - the unperfect child. His parents would probably be relieved to see him go.

"I'd love to come."

Ghost chuckled, "Good." He pulled open the passenger door, "Lace, get your scrawny ass into the backseat, Farrin's agreed to come."

Lacey laughed, scrambling into the back seat of the car, her short skirt giving both boys an eyeful, "Brilliant! I rang Kane, and he reckons we can crash with him in Sydney for a few days, or weeks, or whatever, so we can head there first I reckon."

"Sounds like a plan," Ghost agreed, pulling back out into the flow of traffic, "Oh by the way pet, you have any money to contribute?"

Farrin dug his wallet out of his baggy black jeans and fished out a fifty dollar note, "Here."

Ghost grinned, "Hmm, looks like you're a good investment."

Lacey rolled her eyes, "He wouldn't care if you were broke with nothing but the clothes on your back," She leaned forward conspiratorially, "He likes you."

"Shut up you!" Ghost took a hand off the steering wheel to absently push Lacey backwards playfully.

Lacey giggled, avoiding his hand, "Ghost has got a *crush*. Ghost has got a *crush*."

Ghost's cheeks went slightly pink, "You're just jealous of my impeccable taste luv, and because I don't like you."

Lacey stuck out her tongue as they sped down the highway, music blaring from the speakers, "No way. You're not my type - too gay!"

Farrin gazed at the man driving the car out of the corner of his eye... Ghost liked him...? "You're...?"

Ghost guessed what he was asking and grinned wryly, "Yeah, I'm gay. You are cool with that, right?"

"Of course," Farrin flushed, blurting out his first response, "Me too. Sort of."

"The proper term is bi, Farr, and I already told Ghost, way back when I introduced you about 3 months back."

Farrin bowed his head letting his hair fall forwards to hide his flaming face. Ghost's pale hand reached out to tilt his head up so that their eyes met, and the driver gave him a reassuring smile, before returning his eyes to the road. Farrin's blush deepened as Ghost's hand fell down to rest on his thigh, and warmth slowly spread outwards from the spot. Ghost liked him...

Lacey bobbed her head in time with the music, her pale grey eyes sparkling with excitement, "We're going to have a blast you guys."

The next bus heading for the city mall passed by the empty bus-stop, and Farrin, absently mouthing the words to the song playing on the radio didn't even give the bus a thought.

--

"Okay, I reckon we should take a break here, I don't want to blow what little money we have on a hotel, so we'll spend what's left of the night in the car - I'd suggest swapping off, but I know that you guys don't have your licences." Ghost's mellow voice broke the hush that had fallen over the car.

Lacey sat up straighter, running a hand through her grey-ish black hair, her grey eyes drooping, "Kay. How are we all sleeping?"

"You're the smallest, so I reckon you can take the driver's seat, and I'll share the backseat with Farrin."

"Kay." Lacey agreed, following the elder's instructions without question. Farrin undid his seatbelt as well, and after Ghost had settled himself in the backseat he clambered back after him. Ghost smiled, and casually pulled the chestnut haired boy down until they were comfortably entwined together on the backseat, a tartan blanket draped over them, and a similar one draped around Lacey.

Farrin's thoughts lingered on how his parents would be reacting right now to his lack of reappearance. His mother would have assumed when he didn't come home that he'd decided to spend the night at Lacey's, but she would be furious at him for not telling her, or calling, so that she could forbid it. Right now she was probably plotting how to punish him. He could picture her, when he closed his eyes; her greying chestnut hair pulled back severely, her lips pinched in a tight smile, the one that irritated him so very much. Her voice would be moderated - rational, and she would calculatedly explain why he was grounded, until he snapped, swearing at her with tears streaming down his face, heavy eye make-up streaked over his cheeks. He hated the way that she always had to be right, it irritated him on his most base level - he hated that she always had to make him look the fool, the villain. He hated her rational explanations. He hated the way that she controlled everything he did, right down to his aspirations, to his very thoughts. He hated that every time he wanted to do something she had crushed his dreams, and he hated that she didn't even realise she was doing it. He hated that she expected him to be as perfect as Sarah Mae. Stupid bitches - both of them.

It wouldn't have occurred to his mother, yet, that he might have run away. Hell, she wouldn't *want* to believe that. It implied that she just might have failed as a loving mother. As if it wasn't obvious that her bloody rules and "advice" drove him insane. His every act of rebellion, from the way he dressed to his sexual preference, was his defiance of the rules she made for him to break.

Ghost's arms tightened around his waist as he tensed, his jaw clenching angrily, and he forced himself relax into the hold, letting his tension drain out of his body, before he fell into sleep wrapped in the white haired boy's comforting arms.

Lacey, snuggled in her own blanket, smiled as she looked back at the pair. Farrin was the only real friend she'd made in her short time in hell. She'd moved around a lot in her relatively short life, sometimes with her parents or relatives, sometimes alone or with friends or lovers. It didn't seem to matter where she went, she eventually found herself at a school, somewhere, gravitating towards the freaks, the social misfits, and the queers. Farrin had been an oddity, he'd started off looking so normal, but he'd adored her clothes, claimed he'd never seen anyone dressed like her - she'd found a store that sold her kind of clothes, and she'd outfitted him like a 'freak'. He'd taken to it like a fish to water.

His hair, which had already been fairly long, he'd grown out, and one long weekend, he'd cornered Lacey with black hair-dye and they'd both dyed their hair. He was almost like a brother, or a protege, and she'd grown to adore him - despite his relatively 'easy' seeming life. She knew that he struggled with his parents, and she knew that his mother, in particular, annoyed the shit out of him - she understood completely, she couldn't stand Gracie-Lu. The woman would probably be furious if she knew where Farrin was, if she could see what Lacey was seeing - Farrin James Pall snugly encased in another male's not so innocent embrace. Her grey eyes softened, they really were cute together though - just as she'd suspected they would be.

--

"Hey beautiful," An unfamiliar voice husked into Farrin's ear, and a soft pressure was exerted to his lips. Farrin opened his eyes to see a pair of dark amber-gold eyes just inches from his own. Ghost's lips twitched upwards in a smile, "Always wondered if you could wake someone with a kiss. Looks like you can."

Farrin's cheeks instinctively turned red, and he scrambled upwards, without taking into account the fact that his body was still tangled with Ghost's, and consequently his body ended up being pressed flush against the older man's.

"Uh..." Farrin's brain slowed to a jarring halt, and he tried to work his mouth to continue his sentence. Ghost chuckled, but his chuckle turned into a sort of choked moaning noise as Farrin regained control of his wayward body and drew his knee up slightly.

"Oh... fuck..." Ghost whimpered under his breath as Farrin pushed back exerting a slight pressure on the young man's groin.

Farrin's eyes slid down to where his knee was grinding gently into the white-haired man's crotch, which, coincidentally, was responding to the movement. Ghost and Farrin simultaneously turned the same shade of red. Farrin tried to straighten his leg, but to no avail, instead succeeding only in further embarrassing both of the boys as his leg once again rubbed against Ghost's growing erection.

"Bloody hell boy, stop it! You're a minor, it's illegal for me to ravish you and you're looking really tempting right now." Ghost tried to extricate himself, pushing himself into a somewhat upright position and then clambered over the boy. His leg got caught, however, and he ended up straddling the other boys hips. From there he could feel that he wasn't the only one excited by the close contact they were sharing.

"Sorry," Farrin whispered, his tone completely mortified - Ghost would no doubt laugh at him for his inability to control himself. He'd had other boys tease him, and although he'd explained his reactions to their naked bodies as spontaneous erections, he'd never really lived it down. In this situation Ghost really couldn't mistake it for anything else.

Ghost's amber eyes showed a mess of conflicting emotions, as he swore under his breath, and without further delay claimed Farrin's lips as possessively and passionately as his earlier kiss had been chaste and teasing. Farrin's own self-restraint shattered, and he kissed back unreservedly.

Both boys were panting when they reluctantly parted for air, but Ghost didn't speak, opting instead to reclaim the boy's lips with equal passion. It really was the damn brunette's fault - he'd been taunting him with that gorgeous body since he got in the car, and now Ghost finally got to dip into his honey-sweet mouth, and drink his nectar, as if it were his to take.

When they parted for the second time Farrin's eyes were glazed, "I've decided to turn gay - you are, hands down, the best kisser I have ever kissed. I guess this settles the gender issue."(1)

Ghost gently touched the younger boy's lips with his once more, and then drew back smiling, "Thanks. You're not so bad yourself doll. Fuck you're hot, but - why couldn't you be just 3 years older?"

Farrin wrinkled his nose, "What do you care? It's not like we're going to get married or anything. I like you, you like me, we both like kissing, I don't see a problem."

Ghost rolled his eyes, "You make a surprising amount of sense. Alright, I'm going to agree because I know if I don't I'll just end up losing it and jumping you again, so... alright."

"So we're a... thing?" Farrin's voice was hesitant, cutely innocent, quite unlike his usual angry monotone.

"Yeah. A thing. Until it stops being fun," He smiled at Farrin. Farrin smiled back. Ghost shook his head, as if to clear it, "Right, we'd better get going then, ne?"

Lacey laughed, "I was wondering when you two were finally going to get over your newfound lust. If we don't get going now Farrin's 'rents might catch up with us, and while nobody's going to care about you and me running off, Farrin's a whole different story."

Farrin scowled at the girl, "Not by choice. Besides I'll ring my mom later, if she decides to care that I'm gone. I don't want to go back home - I hate it there. It's boring-"

"And there's no Ghost to keep you occupied," Lacey chimed in, causing Farrin's cheeks to pink as he glared at her.

Ghost pulled the boy closer and pressed a gentle kiss to his neck, "Leave my new boyfriend alone Lacey. Just because we're getting some is no reason to get jealous..."

"Hey! Farrin's still a minor! That makes it statutory rape! Grant Tenmark you bad boy you!" Lacey chuckled as she mock-admonished the white haired young man.

"Fuck off," Farrin growled, "It's only an offence if someone finds out, and you're not going to tell, are you?"

Lacey shook her head defensively. "I was just kidding!"

"Now, now children, no fighting. Let's just get into our seats and get this show on the road."

Farrin rolled his eyes and did as he'd been told, even as Lacey shoved Ghost roughly, irritated at being called a child.

Ghost laughed and climbed into the driver's seat, his long legs stretching out, and his amber eyes glistening with excitement as he turned the key and gently touched the accelerator to start the car. Lacey scrambled into her seat, doing up her seatbelt as he reached forward to turn on the radio.

Farrin smiled as the loud heavy beat of a Marilyn Manson song - Sweet Dreams - pounded through the speakers. Ghost carefully pulled back onto the highway, and then they were on their way, to wherever the open road took them.

Farrin's violet-blue eyes, still rimmed with heavy mascara and eyeliner after a full night's sleep fixed on the horizon, and his freedom: for the first time in his life he could do as he pleased.

End Chapter One.

Authors Notes: Yeah, another one - I know I should be working on the ones I have published, and I hate the authors who do this, but this was where my inspiration hit, and I am still working on my others, when I have the inspiration. This one was inspired by, oddly enough, the news. I was watching them talk about a kid who was abducted, and my mind thought 'what if he wasn't really abducted, he just decided to run away' and then I sat down, started writing, and voila, Farrin, Lacey and Ghost were born. Ghost's full name is Grant Harold Odin Simmons-Tenmark by the way, to explain Lacey's comment.

(1) As the author I must state that I disagree with Farrin, although I have kissed some fairly decent male kissers, overall (with the exception of my ex, Sarah) the girls I have kissed/frenched/made out with have been far better at it than the boys.
