Elizabeth shook her head and smiled. So many questions, so few answers. She looked to the sky to let her eyes trace the patterns of the wispy white clouds. God created all this? She thought in awe. How can someone so great love me? Elizabeth looked down to the ground as a single tear appeared on her cheek. Because he is God. Elizabeth smiled knowingly at the loving feeling inside her. Out of all the people in the world she had God's love. Wasn't that enough for total happiness? It should be.
Elizabeth got up and started to follow the trail home, but diverted her attention to the birds flying overhead. Life is beautiful, she thought happily. Why couldn't everyone have her joy? If only everyone loved God and didn't care so much of worldly things everything would be wonderful. People cared too much of what people thought of them and cared too much for wealth.
Elizabeth didn't care for riches. Neither did she care for acceptance from the world. Look at me she laughed. Elizabeth dressed in the silliest garbs. She loved diversity and being different. Besides who in this life was really worth impressing besides the heavenly father? No one that came to mind, she thought. Some people called her a freak; some just said she craved attention, although neither conclusion was true. She preferred her 'less than normal' look to those of the 'less than wholesome' girls she attended high school with.
Elizabeth came upon a huge pile of leaves and closed her eyes and fell backwards. Laughing out loud Elizabeth felt like a child once again lying in the leaf pile. Why couldn't everyone have the innocence of a child? A child saw everything for what it should be. To a child everything was right and there was no wrong. Elizabeth smiled. God was so good. Why couldn't everyone see how good he really was? Elizabeth pulled herself up and started to walk home again, but a squirrel scampering on the ground held her attention. As it ran to a nearby tree Elizabeth followed it's path heading towards the forest.
"God I love you so much! You make my life complete and give me the assurance that everything will be okay! Lord I love to speak your name! I could just sing praises to you all day!" Elizabeth loved the joyous feeling she had in her heart. God was so great; she wished she could give everyone some of her happiness. It would do the world some good to have a bit more cheerfulness. Elizabeth kept walking until she came to a bend in the road that led to the lake.
As she stepped down to the small shore she felt a small movement inside her. 'Ahh!' She smiled patting her stomach. Her baby girl was kicking! "Thank you Lord." She thought merrily. Yes, she had messed up. She had gotten mixed up in things that had changed her life, but she hadn't let it change her for anything.
If anything it had brought her closer to God and closer to knowing there was hope and everything wasn't always dark and gray. She had opened her heart in her darkest hour when she had found out of her pregnancy and God had answered to her pleas and wrapped her in his loving arms. "Oh God you are almighty!" Elizabeth said raising her hands in praise. Elizabeth stood at the edge of the lake shouting to the Lord and an unexplained feeling of love and mercy was upon her.
Elizabeth looked up to the trees eyes gleaming with tears of joy. "This child is truly a gift from you Lord! I shall never cease to praise you for her and everyday thank you for such a gift of love." Elizabeth knew this was God's way of keeping her from giving up her life. After her hour of weakness she had thought there was no reason to live, but she was wrong. There was only more reason to keep going, more reason to run through the woods and shout at the top of her lungs that she was okay and that she was going to make it! No one would ever bring her down. She was in Gods hands now and that's all that mattered.
Life would be a challenge, this child would be a challenge but Elizabeth was ready for it. With God at her side and in her heart she couldn't go wrong, and this is what pulled her through the dark times and into the light.
Elizabeth was a true survivor.
