The lights twinkle on the evergreen bough,
Stockings shiver in anticipation.
Yet my heart is not with the season now,
It quietly stares at celebration.
Candle flames will dance to holiday dreams,
Hope will be rekindled for just one day,
Humans absently forget mortal screams,
To just gather with loved ones come what may.
They cannot hide from its all seeing eye.
It's really like a new-old clarity
Of Santa Clause in the mind's open sky
that few look beyond the shadow to see.
Holidays may bring smiles of happiness,
Yet they may be empty with loneliness.
Author's Note: I wrote this Christmas Eve. Now mind you I'm not undergoing what many call 'Christmas depression', just presenting a different viewpoint of the holidays. I myself love the holidays. And yes, the poem is in Shakespearian sonnet form. Just be aware of those around you during the holidays and please review. *Her muses place seasonal lights all about the review button and grin winningly*
