In Vain

Venetian heart of glass you close to me

As with false smiles you open up your arms;

I blind my eyes, embrace uncertainty

Succumbing to the pleasure of your charms

No rose to me would ever smell as sweet

As dreams of you and I in love’s embrace;

Yet when at last in passion our lips meet,

The taste is bitter, hollow as your grace

One day when the wisteria have fled

Perhaps you’ll notice all the tears I’ve bled.

***

for Black Rider

(I’m fully aware this probably isn’t what you wanted…but it’s Christmas…maybe I’ll be able to write something better later when I have more time.)
