Okay, so this is pretty old, but it used to be one of my favorites. If you want me to continue it, PLEASE, leave me a review.
Wind's Daughter
The wind rustled the leaves on the trees, the night air cooled the lake, and the moon reflected softly onto the calm water. A tall, lean female of about 16 sat in a large willow tree, hair moving gently as the leaves, caressed by the soft wind and the moonlight. Her sandy hair appeared silver in the moonlight, and her green eyes shined a brilliant white blue. Smiling silently, she listened to the whisper of the wind.
Hello again, my dear, how are you this day?' She closed her eyes and thought out a reply. The wind was ever old, with many years of thinking, witnessing the frailty of humans, and it declined speech with the incompetent, or bumbling. Respectful in a way only one who has seen everything can be to someone beneath it, the wind waited patiently.
All is well, my lady, and I hope all is for the best with you?
As well as can be expected when nothing can harm oneself. I see mankind hurting and killing, all over nothing of value. There is a war in some foreign country over what I believe is a property dispute. In all honesty, I believe the earth would give them what they ask, yet they are not as enlightened as you, Alisila. But what can be expected?' There was the semblance of a shrug indicated by the movement of the world.
Of course my lady. I am humbled by your high opinion of me, yet fairly told, undeserving of such praise of one so majestic as you. Ali replied, head bowed, humbled. I am still one of the humans, and while I do have the privilege of being able to speak with you, it is only because of my lineage, or so I've heard . . . The wind paused a moment and seemed to consider the statement, and the movement of the leaves and her hair stopped. The trees begged for the breeze to return, and their cries pained Ali to hear. The cool breeze returned a second later, much to the relief of the trees and Ali's mind.
My dear, you were born with the gift to communicate with the spirits of the world, and never think that you are on the same level of those humans I spoke of. You are higher than they, almost demigod ranking even, mind that you don't disagree with my assumptions.'
The airy lady swirled Ali's hair, causing a vortex around her and the tree. Ali smiled to herself, and jumped into the air, arms outstretched, and for a moment touched the sky. This was a game they had played for years, when the Lady was like a mother to her. The wind let her down gently, returning her to the ground. Ali bowed low, her waist length hair brushing the ground lightly. Tell me Lady, why do you take to me so? Again the wind considered carefully before answering, this time going with the truth.
Because you are one of the few who can talk to me.' There was a moment's pause, and then, I must leave now Ali, but always remember, I'll always be there for you. Tell no one that you can speak to the elements, and I shall return for a long chat in one turn.' Suddenly the presence in the wind was gone, yet not in a way.
I'd never forget, Lady. Ali turned to the tree she had been sitting in and thanked it for its acquiescence. It preceded to rain soft pink blossoms on her head. She smiled, waved to all of the trees and walked back to her village.
Ali arrived at the village only to have everyone within distance of her flee. She sighed, and dragged herself to the small hut on the end of the village. She had shared this house with her foster mother, after her mother had come to the village accidentally while pregnant.
Her birth mother had died in this very house, and her body had been carried away by the village men, to be disposed of somewhere else. Ali had been raised by Ostafi, her foster mother till she was five. Then the woman had died, and Ali had no one to talk to. All alone in the world, she had run to the cliff where the monumental oak tree sat, leaned against it and cried. Then she heard a voice calling to her. Dear child, why do you cry?' With the innocence of a child, she had replied to the voice without bothering to see who it had come from.
I'm alone in the world, and I have no one to talk to both my moms died and the village all thinks me am weird. She sobbed. The blue glowing woman smiled softly, and circled her arms around the child.
Know this then, I will be with you always and you will never be alone.' And the lady disappeared into the night sky. Even though she was gone, Ali could still feel her presence, watching over her. Returning to the village, she found no pity, and all the children mocked her; Orphaned once and then again, No one wanted her. But Ali could still feel the lady from before within her, and for no apparent reason, millions of leaves flew in, carried by a wind that could have never been predicted, and slapped the naughty children everywhere, then swirled around and hit them again. The children all ran to their respective houses and as suddenly as it had started, the wind stopped. My dear child, that was actually some fun,'the Transparent lady from before had appeared behind her without warning, but she wasn't shocked at all. Promise me Ali that you will never let them get to you.' The ethereal beauty commanded, eyes that appeared more than they were gazing sternly into Ali's eyes. Promise me.' She commanded again.
Ali bowed her head. I promise, she paused for a moment, Who are you, and why do you want to help me? I'm nobody, and the others all think I'm different . . . she said gazing at the floor, unable to meet the gaze of the Gossamer woman.
But my dear, you are different. You are something they will never be, beautiful and pure of heart. Even for children, compared to you they are nothing.'
But I am different, I'm taller than all the people my age, and even some older than I, and all the people in the village are more built than I am, they say it's the food around here . . . but I eat the same food as they do, and look at me. She gestured at her athletically thin frame. She was right, for a five-year-old, she was thin and very tall.
Oh love, that's better, so you can go and do things younger, shorter, fatter people can't'
She gestured down at her own thin frame, (which was almost crystalline) There are rides we can go on at the carnivals that they can't, and because you look the way you do, you can get into places they can't, like swords training and the like.' Ali sniffled and smiled a slight smile.
You mean I can learn to use a sword?
If that is what you want, then I shall help you get into training. As a matter of fact, I know the best trainer in the whole planet.' She added as an afterthought.
Ali smiled genuinely now, but she frowned when a disturbing thought crossed her mind. What should I call you Lady?
A sheer smile appeared in the lady's lips and she replied after a moment, I am not one who has but one name, like yourself I have many, but for you alone, I am Kahana Beauswref.'
Kahana, Ali said, tasting the word out. Okay, but if I slip and call you mom you wont mind, will you? she asked with a childish grin.
