There was once a memory that I had
About a strange man who came to my door
It was in my bedroom, though
And he asked if I was feeling well
I told him that I was and
Being polite, I asked on his health
Not well at all
Was his reply
I didn't ask why
It seemed that we
Stood like that for a while
Wondering what the other was thinking
Until he inquired upon it
I said nothing
The memory grows stranger still
The man gave me chocolate
And told me that it would solve
All of life's persistent questions
Very well
I ate the chocolate
It was good but
It seemed to be lacking something
I told the man
But he just shrugged
Life's questions can't all be answered
In chocolate he said
He stood there for some more time
I began to wonder
If he'd ever leave
No
No, he wasn't going to
And so he didn't
I can't seem to remember
How long the strange man
Stood at the door of my bedroom
And tried to offer me more chocolate
But I wasn't hungry
Now that I think back on it
I really can't recall
If there really was chocolate involved
It might have been instead
The offer for a free trip
To a far off island that
No one's ever heard about
Finally the man left me
Alone in my room
And I seem to recall falling asleep
And dreaming about waking up
And discovering that I was
Late for school
In that weird dream my mother
Screamed that I had missed
The school bus which was now gone
She seemed to tell me to
Not lay around and hurry get up
You WILL be late
I seemed to consider the offer
I inquired if there was chocolate involved
No, she said
Get out of bed and STOP dreaming
I informed her that I couldn't
Since I was already dreaming
Or was I?
Had indeed
That strange man who offered
Me amazing chocolate which
Would answer everything
Really just a dream???
Of course not, silly mother
I mean
Doesn't it happen to you everyday?
