I held your hand
As we walked
To the end of the road
You stopped our rhythm
And when you looked
Into my eyes
My knees buckled
We embraced
And I melted into you
You wouldn't let me go
And I felt nothing but warmth
But when I pulled away
I noticed tears standing in your eyes
And I laughed
Because I knew
I would never see you again
And before I spoke
You interrupted me
You grabbed my shoulders
And once again pulled me into you
This time
You caught me with your lips
And we kissed
And all I could do was
Laugh and cry
I ran my hands through your hair
While you cupped my face
And I knew
That this wasn't love
But for now
It was all that I needed
And all that I couldn't keep
When your lips left mine
And we broke apart
I was alone
And scared
But you knew all too well
And held my hand
We resumed walking
Until the end of the sidewalk
You looked down at me
And smiled weakly
The both of us
Trying not to show our fear
I hugged you one last time
Kissed you on the cheek
And turned away
But you wouldn't let us end like this
You grabbed me back
And kissed me passionately
On the mouth
And I touched your face
For the last time
And you looked down at the sidewalk
Where I walked on
But you were left behind
