Author’s note:

Yo, guys! This is what I wrote during a short break from fantasy. Why? It’s because my whole life is associated with fantasy, even my dreams. So this is what I wrote after I got a brief inspiration in the showers. Yep, it’s the same place where I get all my music inspirations! Water really does certain wonders. :P Also, I was inspired by a song called ‘Suteki Da Ne’ (the orchestrated version), the theme song of a famous RPG known as ‘Final Fantasy X’. You should download it if you can (I used something called WinMix), because it’s a really a nice song, although a bit sad.

Anyway, I hope that you like this short story that I wrote! :D (Hint: Review please!)

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The lyric to the song that’s used in this short story is taken from a part of another song called ‘Song of Mana’, the ending song of ‘Legend of Mana’ by Squaresoft. So that means I didn’t write the song, I only edited it. Also, the song is in Swedish so I’ll only put the English translation here. After all, I can’t understand Swedish. :P Anyway, it’s a nice song as well (it seems that every song I put here is nice, eh? :P) so download it if you can!

Also, take note that the words in “this format” are the lyric to the song.

The summary for “Songstress: In the World of Songs”:

The roar of the crowd surrounds her and her song is in everyone’s mind and heart. She seems entirely happy as she sings her heart out, but is she truly happy? (Note: This is a mixture of a story and a songfic) --COMPLETE--

Songstress: In the World of Songs

The roar of the crowd was truly deafening in the darkness of the night. The lights in the huge building flickered off as she lowered her head, her silky shoulder-length blond hair dancing wildly about as if there was a gust of wind blowing, her beautiful pink lips curling into a soft smile.

This is my world, she thought.

Suddenly the lights flared back on, the colorful beams aiming at her and making her slightly skimpy clothing seem to glow with its own light. At the same time she looked up, her bright green eyes shining at the crowd as she raised the microphone closer to her chin.

My world… My world of songs.

When the familiar music started, she let it wash over her and her body moved automatically, moving back and forth as the adrenalin flowing through her veins. Her feelings came from her in the form of words, strung into the song that she had remembered so well. Everything around her dissolved into nothingness as her mind entered the world of her own, where only her song exists.

“I heard a nostalgic song
Somewhere far away…”

As she sang, memories of old came flooding into her mind. She had first started singing this song years ago, when she was only sixteen. It was her first written song, her pride and joy, but it was because of her one and only love, the tall and dark-haired person that held the key to her heart.

“It touched me deep in my heart,
And a young light Spoke of the Song of Life…”

It was due to his influence that she had started singing, and it was he who introduced her to the world of songs, the world that had taken her very heart and soul together with him.

“I’ve been ignoring it,
And I went back…”

Every time she arrived at his house to practice, the sound of his guitar was the first to welcome her to sing along. Into the house she went and all day long they would sing, aware only of the world of their own, the world of songs.

“Circling around me was the song,
Both friendly and mean to me…”

There was no one in the house to disturb the two of them, for he was the only child and his parents had died of an unknown disease when he was only ten. However, he wasn’t the only one who was without parents.

“My life took a turn,
I am born again…”

This was another one of her memories, the one she had always tried to push away from her mind, but failed. It was of her family members, the ones she had lost at least twelve years ago, when she was there to witness Death taking them away.

“My longing for you isn’t a diamond,
It’s just a little crystal…”

Together with her family members, she was in a bright silver car heading towards the nearest seaside town for the summer, as most people in the little town did.

“Like a piece of sand in the desert,
One drop in the ocean,
Oh, here I come…”

The car never did meet with its destination, for there was a loud rumbling followed by a screech, and the car was thrown off the road. The ground tore into two as the rain hit them mercilessly, leaving them in the hands of Death.

“All I want is to sleep
With your song around me,
All I want is to wait,
To be washed away in a dream…”

She was there to witness the evil half of Mother Nature, who took away her parents and twin sister, the only ones she had truly known for life.

“I am walking
With my longing
To be with you…”

She had not known happiness ever since until she met her loved one, but Fate was not in good terms with her. In a storm at sea, he had gone. Gone, without a chance for her to say goodbye.

“I’m riding on a steed of wind
That echoes far into your song…”

Vowing to herself not to love again, she returned to the world of songs, this time on her own. Now, years later, everyone was drawn together into the echoes of her song, the Song of Life.

"Thrown by waves,
Hindered by storms,
Oh, here I come to you…”

When her song finished, she was brought back from the world of songs into reality and she faked a smile at the roaring crowd, as she would after every song she sang.

“A nostalgic song,
The Song of Life…”

“We want more…! We want more…!” the crowd chanted, but she turned to enter the backstage. She hated to leave them in disappointment, but she could not sing another song, for now her eyes were swimming in tears.

“I’m keeping your smile
Close to my heart…
And I continue my ride to you…”

What happened after that she could not remember, for her mind was shrouded in the memories that flooded her mind against her will.

“Seasons come and go again,
And I go along with them…”

She was not aware of her surroundings until she was seated at the orange sofa in her living room, her bag standing on the glass table in front of her. Once more the tears blinded her eyes, and this time she cried her heart out.

“I thought I was free

Free from the past…”

True, the world of songs had given her happiness, but could that happiness rival the one from being with her loved ones?

“Colored memories
Flooding deep inside me…”

She got up from the orange sofa and slowly made her way into her kitchen. When the kitchen cabinet came into view above her, she took a bottle of pills from the cupboard and returned to the living room with a cup of warm water. No, she did not want to kill herself, only to ease her now growing headache, but now that she thought of it…

“Oh, here is my dream…
Here is my future…”

Could she give up her passion?

“Here is all the purpose of my life…
My beautiful dream…”

But without him, her one true love, she would never have entered the world of songs, never known the feeling… never felt the passion.

“Finally… finally…”

Before she changed her mind, she quickly swallowed every single pill in the bottle and drank down the warm water. With that, she waited for them to take effect. Did I do the right thing? she thought as more hot tears slid down her cheeks.

“Finally… finally…”

She felt herself grew weak and Time seemed to stop as her body landed on the orange sofa, her mind unaware of the pain that her body felt.

“I am with you…”

Her eyes closed and she clasped her hands as if in prayer, her thoughts her only of her family and only love as the room around her became darker… and darker… and finally became black.

----

When the first sunlight touched the house, screams were heard and footsteps hurried to the source of it. They too, started screaming. With that, the telephone was being used once more and soon cars arrived at the doorsteps. Then there were people borrowing a shoulder for others to cry on, people prancing up and down the halls demanding to know the truth, people sitting quietly in corners to calm themselves down, people storming out of the house in anger and people who sworn that they heard her Song of Life.

Her body was left at the spot untouched, for the people had not the heart to move it away yet. However, everyone claimed that she had a smile on her face. Not the fake one she had put on for everyone, but a real smile, the one forgotten for years. She was finally at peace.
