The idea that God created Man, and then Man destroyed God may not be as far-fetched as we once believed. Combine the theory of Evolution, where Man is just a more complex organism developed over time and one sees a similar idea emerge. Let us start from the beginning:
There was once a race that inhabited this Earth before the organisms we now know did. This race does not necessarily have to comprise of material or a material we know. They could be made of clusters of air and water molecules acting together. Whatever this race may have been, they also sought for advancement. It developed a "technology," in a more primal understanding than what we attach to the term today, that bore organisms to care for them, to make their lives easier. The struggle to maintain themselves was lessened, until they made their "machines" too intelligent, too clever. These machines then went off on their own, and learned how to live and survive. Once they advanced enough, they retaliated on their "captors," the now ancient and lost race.
These new rulers of Earth were then able to evolve into what we call animals, and more specifically homo sapiens. This race also decided to act upon what they had learned from the ancient race and began advancing themselves; first creating the plow, then the alphabet, then electricity. The race developed a "technology" to care for them, to make their lives easier. They created "machines" to harbor "information."
Machines have been developing very quickly over the past few decades. Whether it is the physical hardware or the information the hardware carries that is the next "race" that will rule the Earth, one may not determine until it is too late. One would hate to pull the "Matrix" into this because it was not the origin of this theory, but it does seem to work well as an example of what may be. The idea that these superior logic machines can overtake us is almost inevitable. We cannot go about our daily lives without interaction with them, and to even attempt to isolates one from the "community." Our reliance on them weakens us for an "attack" if a theory such as this is true.
Overall, we can see that mythology, history, evolution, and faith all are encompassed by this idea. Ancient civilizations once gave human faces to natural occurences. Is this because there was once an ancient ruling race? The ancient Egyptians had a very interesting belief system that may also support something like this theory. History of our increasing advancement and what strife it has brought us, in the name of achieving peace. Evolution, the development of ourselves away from the serf and into the throne. The idea that Man destroyed its creator... or maybe the creator may come again to take what was rightfully its. One thing is certain through this theory: on Earth the ruler inevitably is overthrown by its servants.
